Apparently it landed on Monte Martre. That's over five miles away! Story I got told was that some pavement artist sold it to a Texan tourist - told him it was a genuine Jackson Pollock!

Sounds like a twelve change of underwear trip.

Tell me about it, I had to get into the jet-powered rocket pants and junior-birdman the hell out of there!

An excellent and inventive method, sir, with just two tiny drawbacks. A, You don't have any jet-powered rocket pants. And B, There's no such thing as jet-powered rocket pants outside the fictional serial "Robbie Rocket Pants".

If I want to see glaciers, I drive 3 hours in one direction to higher altitude, get a cabin with a log fire and go hiking in the paramos. If I want a hot summer's day, I go 2 hours in another direction, lower in altitude and just hire a house with a pool for the weekend. I get paid the same as I did in the UK but my rent was 100GBP per month and gas bill 2GBP. Now I've chosen to live in a penthouse apartment with an indoor pool, cinema room (perfect for games nights), roof terrace, gym and a beautiful view of the mountains. Rent is a whopping 325GBP. Not a bad place to spend lockdown. Cost of living is so low that I can save half my income, minimum.

I miss my family and friends back home but 3 months of the year, I'm on holiday. So I can go home, guilt free for 2 months of the year (when the borders aren't closed) and then spend the 15 bank holidays here exploring waterfalls, swimming in rivers, going to tropical islands and such. The very idea of moving back to the UK terrifies me. Life there is so stressful. There is no work-life balance at all. However, this country is at war again, out in the sticks. So I give it another couple of years and it might not be safe to live here. We'll see. Then, I guess I'll find another country to explore.

Damn, that sounds great! Columbia or Peru is it?

I fancy Cambodia because it's cheap, beautiful and has relaxed weed and drink laws.

Fact of the matter is, for our socio-demographic standings (and race) our quality of life would go up a lot. Her folks aren't loaded but have enough to be very comfortable with decent health insurance.

I'd probably want to retire back here (or somewhere a bit chiller in the US - Colorado maybe) but I'm glad I have Chicago in my future - it's a pretty cool city. There's also a potential scenario where I take over her father's business/operation which would then mean a very nice work life balance.

We could well be state neighbours as I plan to retire in Minnesota in a lake side Cabin.

(well partially, in the summer, I get VERY home sick :shifty: )

But it's not a strawberry floating choice, is it?

Under freedom of movement you can move to any EU country you want......oh yeah that's strawberry floated now.

Still can't believe that's happened.

No, I'm probably going to be living in the Republic of Ireland when I die. I won't even have to move.
