Do you use an umbrella?

There was a time when I wouldn't have been seen dead under an umbrella. In fact, coats with hoods were pretty much off limits too. If it threw it down, I would often arrive back at home soaked to my skin, and then spend the next half hour attempting to get dry.

I received a complimentary umbrella when I purchased my new car about a year ago, and since then I use it all the time. It's strawberry floating brilliant. Not only is it absolutely massive so it keeps every drop of rain off me, you can spin it around and pretend you're in Singing In The Rain and gooseberry fool. If it died now I would absolutely go and purchase myself a new one, a thought I'd never entertained before.

So, GRcade - Umbrellas? Are they just for banana splits?

I love a good umbrella, I used to have a strawberry floating brilliant one that had the perfect combination of strength, portability and clean design. Too many umbrellas are either too small that they don't achieve much other than keeping the top of your head dry, or are big but too weak and so get strawberry floated over by the wind.

I can't strawberry floating stand hoods.

They never seem to fit properly, either being too big so that you can't bloody see out of them or too small that they don't actually cover your head and keep it dry. Also they always strawberry float my hair up, if I wear a hood then I inevitably look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards when I arrive wherever I was going so I might as well have not bothered with it in the first place.

Unless I know it's going to absolutely chuck it down (like this morning, in fact) it's a bit of a nuisance to carry around so I don't usually bother. I have a Tiger Woods golf umbrella which I bought when he was very much out of favour during his sex addict phase so I got it for around 75% off. Normally would have cost around a 100 quid otherwise.

Can sustain up to 80mph winds, so there's more chance of me turning into Mary Poppins than it caving in on me.

I've only used an umbrella when collecting my son from school. I can't think of another situation where I would be just stood outside somewhere waiting for something. If I was then I would probably take one but that's it.

I have kept one in the boot of my car for years though in case.

I very rarely use an umbrella. I only have a short walk to work and they are a pain in the ass to store here. If it is absolutely hammering down then I will take one.
