There are certain contexts where you absolutely should be wearing a mask. If you're on public transport, or indoors with other people (like a shop), it's selfish not to.

Outdoors where you can keep several meters away from others at all times I admit it's less of a big deal.

I would still wear one in e.g. a park though just in case it helps a bit.

That’s not necessary at all. You can still be perfectly sensible and minimise the risk of catching/spreading without a mask.

No. You can't. A mask is a requirement to minimise the risk of spreading it. If you choose not to wear a mask when out in public you are choosing not to minimise the risk to other people and being a selfish banana split.

The only reason not to wear a mask is if you have a genuine medical reason why you cannot wear one.

I’m not having being spoken to like that when a third of the vote also says no. I think you should mind how you speak.
A mask helps, of course, but there are other ways and means that I personally am employing and have been since March. I’ve not caught the virus, nor passed it on. And don’t come at me on your high perch with ‘how do you know?’ with more abuse. Typical GR, this.

Other ways and means like what?
How do you know you've not caught it and/or passed it on if you could have been asymptomatic at the time? Are you being tested every single day? That's why wearing a mask when out in public is so important to protecting others.

Anyone who makes the choice to not wear a mask when out in public is being selfish and a banana split.

Mine fog up, but it often depends on the type of face covering i'm using as some types seem to make it happen more than others.

Have to keep my glasses on though otherwise i'll start bumping into things.

I have face masks with the metal clip in them and better ventilation than my preferred choice, but... they're too pointy looking on the mouth and so I don't really like wearing those ones

Thankfully my short-sightedness isn't too bad and I get away with it, but I do feel for people who need to be wearing them to get about.

Let's say that's true (I dunno if it is) but wearing a mask will further help. Just wear one! Please.

Are you 100% sure you've not been asymptomatic and passed it on to someone else Buff?

I've been wearing this mask since late April:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B085ZKJZGH?ref_=pe_3187911_248764861_302_E_DDE_dt_1

Didn't bother trying to buy one before then. It's very breathable and I assume safer than other fabric masks because it fully wraps around and is skin tight.

Other than Sainsburys and visiting the hospital I've not worn it elsewhere because elsewhere = outdoors doing running or cycling or just walking. Obviously pointless wearing it at restaurants and pubs now they've reopened. Not taken public transport since Tuesday 10th March. Unless mandatory at the gym, I won't be wearing it.

My anecdotal observation is that very few people wear them in supermarkets and those that do are often lower risk (younger and slimmer) whilst the ones who would stand to benefit most don't seem to. I'd say less than half of the supermarket staff seem to wear them too and they face much greater risks than the customers.

I don't judge people for not wearing them since up until very recently we were being told they aren't effective and can actually cause more face touching leading to more spreading of the virus and they were in very short supply and extortionate and to be focused on those with the greatest need.

Americans trying to cause scenes in retail stores with "muh freedoms" are the anti-vaxxer types (my most hated conspiracy theory because I view it as a type of child abuse) and seem to have made mask wearing a political thing rather than a "we don't have overwhelming scientific evidence to show these make sense but it seems so obviously likely to have some impact that you might as well do it".

Is anyone?
I know where this is going to keep going, so I’ll just say that my personal circumstances and my actions have been acceptable and safe - I shielded for 12 weeks like I was asked to by the government, I’ve been careful because of a medical condition, so...yeah keep calling me a banana split and retard lads, rock on.

That's kinda the reasoning behind wearing masks in crowded areas isn't it?

This is kind of a misunderstanding of what masks are supposed to achieve though. They have utility in preventing asymptomatic infected from becoming spreaders. Those young, healthy people might have the virus in their system for a long time without symptoms, and wearing a mask just in case will stop them from propagating the virus all through their community.

Masks are just like vaccines - you have to have wide take-up in the population as they work best when everyone has one.

There was only one person that took umbridge with Lagamorph calling people (not you directly) out for not wearing a mask in public.

If you are feeling guilty, that's on you.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

Ta dood. Thing is, those come pre-attached on my white masks and they don't do a very good job of forming a seal. Hmm... maybe if I try pressing them with a bit force on to the bridge and sides of my hooter? I'll try that. If I can get over how naff they look on me.
