Pleasantly surprised that everyone (except the staff) is wearing a mask in Marks & Spencer

The self-service helper in Asda made me remove my mask to ID me for alcohol, which I wasn't really sure about, especially as she came and stood right in front of me.

Also I'm 35 so it was a bit unnecessary generally, but I guess it's harder to tell when half your face is covered.

Probably as simple as:

Fine for selling alcohol to children (not Red): OUTRAGE
Fine for nobody wearing masks: well, nothing

All that said, I was once literally ID'd in Tescos for purchasing a copy of Pokemon, so there can be unknowable systemic reasons for such gaffs too.

You should go grey, then you'll never be ID'd again.

I was ID'd at that age even without a covering.

My girlfriend worked at Tesco for a while, iirc the fine was in the thousands and they'd potentially lose their license to sell booze, so the staff get the message drilled into them to ask regardless.

And as you say, clearly nobody gives two strawberry floats about the masks.

Yup, that's what I was referring to. It's simple risk management, simple as.

I don't get ID'd much anymore (especially sine I hit 3 and recently grew a small beard) but right up through my 20s it was pretty much a 50/50 thing.

Weirdly though my partner who is two years younger than me and good looking (obvs ;) ) never did, despite being about a foot shorter

I remember when I worked in a supermarket, a young guy came in with someone from my class's passport as ID. I think it was his younger brother.

I sold him cos I'm not a narc

You can self-cert in most shops it seems and say you don't have to wear one for health reasons. So don't go mental if you see any banana split not wearing one.

Nah, I'm still going to give them a dirty look and tap at my mask super passively-aggressively.

I've still yet to hear what an actual legitimate health reason is for not wearing a face covering. Surely anyone who has such severe respiratory issues that they can't wear a face covering shouldn't be going to shops anyway and should still be isolating/shielding.

I would guess that some of those people probably have nobody in their lives to help them.

If you're medically unable to wear a face mask, your lungs must be in a horrible state, and you should be on oxygen.

It's safe to wear a mask even if you have a medical condition like asthma or lung disease.

There might be someone out there with a legit medical reason for not wearing one, but as far as I'm aware it's genuinely one-in-a-million stuff.

The same people are also paradoxically able to yell loudly at anyone and everyone about how they have breathing problems and shouldn't wear a mask.

There are no medical reasons that would stop somebody wearing a mask.

https://www.health.com/condition/infect ... -face-mask

The only people that should be exempt are kids under 2 years old.

I guess there could be a mental health issue where somebody could have a genuine reason. But as Karl said that's going to be 1 in a million stuff.

Was once ID'd when trying to buy an Alien 3 DVD, should have just let them keep it in hindsight as the movie was rubbish anyway.

Back on topic though, this popped up in my facebook feed this morning...

I wore a face covering when buying a pint of milk at the local newsagent this morning, but it felt a bit pointless as the shop is too small for more than one person at a time and the owner who works there can't be arsed to wear a mask.
