Hot topic on 5 Live at the moment. Some people seem outraged that others don't wear one, while other people don't care.

How about GRcade - do you always wear one, without fail? Sometimes? Never?

Personally I don't bother, just because I don't wear coats/jumpers and don't want to stick holes in my shirts to attach a poppy to it. No other reason than that. Quite happy to give money if the opportunity presents itself, but I won't go out of my way to do so.

Should people be lambasted for not wearing one? I notice the BBC have already started with their 'everybody who's on-screen MUST wear a poppy' approach...

Part of me wants to not wear one this year, because I want to show solidarity with those fictional outraged muslims.

Nope, I never wear one. Have a photo of one on my phone so if anyone tries to sell me one I simply show it to them saying I already have one at home so no need to buy another.

I have one of those pin badge ones which I'll wear when I go to the Rememberance Day service/parade and maybe wear the day before

I am happy to buy a poppy and contribute but I do not wear one. Mainly because I detest the people that demand that everyone has to wear one.

Do these people exist though? I expect probably on the same scale as the offended muslims.

I have never met a Muslim that gives a gooseberry fool about the poppy.

There are a very very large number of people that get pissy about people not wearing poppies. Have a look at Facebook or go on the BBC while not wearing one. :dread:

Prime example being Barbara Windsor :slol: who's said that anyone who doesn't wear a poppy can "sod off". Good job nobody cares what Barbara Windsor's opinion is on anything.

I know but it's just gobby banana splits isn't it. You probably know more British non-muslim people than muslims. Therefore you hear more opinions from them some of which are of the gobby banana split variety.

Fortunately bigots are dying out. Ignore them all and do what the strawberry float you want. :toot:

I do indeed know more non-Muslim people but there are plenty of those gobby banana splits out there and they are not all old or dying out. The demand for everyone to wear poppies is just as strong as it has ever been and annoys the strawberry float out of me.

I used to wear one every year but don't bother any more ever since it's basically been hijacked by the "sport are troops" Facebook thickos.

I do wonder when it will die out though. Few people alive now have real recollections of fighting in wars or of being in a war.

I don't! Facebook and dickheads in pubs are more than enough to make the stubborn streak in me not want to wear one.

I do if I have to, the poppy seller people used to come round my old office and it basically guilts everyone into buying one. Otherwise I don't bother.

I sometimes do, sometimes don't. My parents got one of those beautiful sculptures from Tower of London art display last year. I might pick a poppy up this year if I see them as I'm back in England for a couple of days. When I get them I don't really associate it with modern combat. Just a tiny gesture of respect to the poor ordinary sods who fought in the world wars.
