25-year-old Tom Holland is to play the Doctor, it was announced by the BBC, Sony Pictures and Bad Wolf today.

Holland, best known for his role as Spider-Man, will lead a very fresh and modern approach to the science fiction series.

Lead writer Russell T Davies’ new era will be a clean slate reboot with no continuity ties to the first 60 years of the show.

I know it’s a fake but it would be cool to see Tom Holland in it.

Plus it’d be way better to see him do shirtless scenes that ever was for 9, 10 & 11. Just him standing there…… sorry what were we talking about?

I honestly can't even remember how the last series ended :fp:

The writing of Jodie Whitaker's tenure has just been so utterly unmemorable. It's just made worse by the fact that sexist trolls will blame her rather than the showrunners.

It really was a mess, the Sea Devils completely wasted as a villain there. But it's mostly down to the writing, really.

Bad special effects too mind. It really does remind me of the tail end of the first run of Dr Who, where the budget cuts and lack of interest really became obvious and killed it off. This actually was prime time Saturday night TV again for a while.

Now you have John Bishop dressed as a comedy pirate in an incoherent children's show.

Be really happy to see the end of this run and a reboot, though do feel that Jodie Whitaker has been completely wasted.

Once again the teaser for next time was the best part. Pacing felt a bit off like it could have done with more set up. Also feels like the pirate queen didn’t need to be a historical figure just any random person. I wonder how many pirate movies chibnal was binging

I feel like yaz could have reacted more to where the sea demons came from, sure she’s been travelling with the dr for a while and probably takes things in her stride but still. Once again there was a case of bad guys just standing there waiting to be beat. And great as it is to see ace returning I can’t help but worry that this is the same thinking that led to Kate doing nothing.

Better than flux

Jodie is an absolutely fantastic actress. She has been abysmally let down by the writing and I think pretty much thrown to the wolves by the BBC with very little support against criticism.

It's probably a long standing thing. When the show is less successful it is because of poor writing, but the lead actor always seems to take the flak.

That was depressingly bad. Not the quality that Jodie deserved for her penultimate episode at all. Really feel like the overall writing have let her down this entire run, which has been such a shame.

I also thought the camera work was really odd, with lots of first-person style shots even when people were talking and sudden cuts that made it feel like entire scenes were missing. It was like extreme COVID rules where nobody was really on the same set, but felt like a stylistic choice to do it that way. :(

I hope the regeneration episode manages to pull something out of the bag to at least end on a high.
