are we sure chibnal doesnt secretly hate dr who?

he certainly loves his clichés, looks like he was watching indianna jones and captain america while writing this. doctor who feels like its succumbing to the same problem that made me stop reading marvel and dc but alas every long running franchise is subject to this. the timeless child thing is still awful, bel and vender are still a pair of 2d snore fests and the ravagers and still greatly uninteresting. i also think the unit dating controversy just got worse as im fairly certain it was founded in the 60s after the war machines had happened. at least we have a better explanation as to why unit is gone. though the grand serpent just seems like chibnal nicked another old idea from a previous writer. chibnal keeps introducing new characters and failing to make them interesting dan and the professor being sole exceptions. where were they getting the money to travel the world? im dreading next week

Can I have my memories of the Chibnal era put in a fob watch please?

Then the fob watch launched into the sun?

I'm finding the structure of these episodes makes them a bit of a chore to get through now, it's all over the place. The comedy largely fell flat for me this episode, and Chibnall Exposition reared his head again. Still don't really care about the Vinder/Bel love story, or the Timeless Child stuff. Tecteun didn't last long, did she?

Was great seeing Kate though!

It's the complete ignoring of every cliffhanger that makes me laugh.

They don't even both to explain how they "escape"/resolve half the time

It's just nonsense. It actively completely kills any audience engagement. It's all just irrelevant and meaningless. Why should you care about any of it?. With elements given great importance and then dropped immediately. Powered by hope if you say things loud enough and keep introducing new characters/aspect people will just go with the momentum,

Last week the Doctor became an Angel....but it doesn't matter and is undone in 2 minutes. It's just to transport her...somehow.

Dan/Yaz are trapped in a shrinking safe village in out of space....oh no they're not. They were let go (but there were no survivors in the village? but these 4 did and no one noticed) and the village put back because....reason (Angels are cruel maybe?)

Now the 3 of them travel the world (funded how? apart from when Dan has to be a stowaway) to look for the date the world ends (which is there for some reason) based on an previously unknown message from the doctor. Because if they find the date...they can...save the world? (Even though the date is likely 100 years in the future?)

Division is all reaching all powerful with agents everywhere from every species. But no one knows anything about them or ever finds any evidence. (A common problem with secret societies but when Tetcuen is extolling their power/reach it makes it ever more silly)

Oh it's going to be another episode with the villain talking to the Doctor and explaining the plot for 30 minutes.

Vin follows the missing (which are now a thing even though the entire universe is strawberry floated)....to where the Ravages are eating them. Why go through the putting in passengers as salvation to move them to take them out to put them somewhere else to eat? Oh Vins in the passengers now. As is Diana. Who the Ravagers took for some reason, but haven't eaten for some reason.

Kavinasta can see the writing 100 years ago how? But then he doesn't have time travel...

Oh it's a fob watch because of course it is...oh wait the memories were in the Angel for some reason, but are now in the fob watch. Oh and the Flux will make Earth the last point of the universe. Great we're special.

So the Grand Serpent can now travel in time, and wants to get earth destroyed. And no one notices this unaging murderer in ranks for 50 years...oh although he might have one or two followers to help him destroy the world who have prominent serpent tattoos.

The Ravagers have been killing people to build a Psycho-Temporal Bridge to get to the Doctor. Because of course they did. Because they knew she'd get to Division. Even though they'd tried to kill her multiple times before.

Oh Division let the Ravager out (Still don't know how/why the other one lived on earth or what the signal/alarm was about)....Why? The Flux was already destroying the universe for them?

And now the Sontarans are here to attack again - across Earth's timeline. After just attacking across earth's timeline and being forced back a few weeks/days ago in the story's timeline.

I think we're expected to believe that the Chinese left that writing on The Great Wall of China for 100 years without removing it.

Only just seen this, Matt - cracking stuff  .

I watched the first episode in this new series and I think "okay" summed up my personal thoughts on it. I haven't seen the episodes since; I suspect I'm gonna hold off and perhaps watch them a few months down the line. Maybe.

But it's just white paint.
And they had to cut plants back to make it - so they'd regrow

That episode was an absolute load of bottom dripping. Chibnal needs a butt-plug to stop any more of it leaking out.

I can handle TV that is full of plot holes or is just nonsensical.

But this is both of those things plus just really uninteresting and boring.

Only good episode so far was the Village of the Angels. Last night's was like one hour of an exposition dump which made no sense.

I always expected the angel Doctor to just be for transport. Thought it was pretty obvious from the set up. But the village being dropped and how the 3 of them got out was shite. Would have been interested in a proper Doctorless story of the 3 of them trying to achieve something meaningful in an alien time. Even if that meant watching Bishop try and act for longer. But nope.

UNIT having a spare TARDIS just laying about! :fp:

I like the Doctors space mummy somehow knew everything the Master said was true. That totally wasnt just for the audience at all.

I can only assume the rough idea behind the Ravagers vs. Divsion is that the passangers are meant to be like seed banks for the new unviverse? So they are fighting over who gets to start over? If not I cant work out whats going on there. The Division locked them up for a reason no?

I liked some of the set design though. I want a cherry blossom tree themed TARDIS now.

I liked how Peggy and psychic woman were just dropped :D

That’s the TARDIS from the village wasn’t it? Presumably it’ll be gone when Timeline resets

did you guys know that back in the 80s out current showrunner chibnal appeared on tv as part of the doctor who appreciation society discussing trial of a time lord? quite interesting as he criticised terror of the vervoids for being rehash of old ideas. i wonder if he still thinks that as he loves rehashing old ideas now. i think the closest thing he has to an original idea (for dr who anyway) was teeth in face

he also said it wasnt a kids show and that it should be more adult but thats a different can of worms

are we all just gonna skip over the part where they said the doctor might not even be from the main universe anymore?
