Sometimes it can be tricky to decide how much is the writing or acting. But in Bishops case I think its very clear he isn't an actor. He seems to have one note which he can work at and when Chibbers gets that old bloke humour going it can land and it could be fun. He seems like a lovely guy and has produced some good memes for us but I think he is one of the weakest leads the show has ever had. Most of those have an excuse of being young inexperienced actors when things dont quite work. But there must be loads of 50 year old males with ability and experience to cast ahead of Bishop. I know Kevin McNally is a little older but it was night and day the difference. I dont blame Bishop though, he didnt cast himself and he seems to have had a lot of fun being a part of the show. Maybe I'm harsh and maybe with more space and time around the plot points he can do a bit more but he just looked out of his depth most of the time to me.

Walsh was a pleasent surprise tbh even with some poor material and I do think Gill can act if given some material and direction to work with but Yaz has often been wasted. Regardless I want a clean slate for RTD2. Even if Yaz had been a knock it out the park successful character by that point she will have been around for long enough. Also starting to wonder if at this point 13/Yaz is actual queer baiting.

On a different topic I saw a suggestion that maybe it was Kate that got put in to replace Captain Jack and that seems more plausable then the Vinder theory. For whats it worth looking back I'd probably just cut everything to do with her and the Grand Serpent and use that time to work on introducing Vinder and Bel together. Show a bit of there normal life. Split them up. Destroy their home world (this might actually have weight to it now to). Show Bel finding out she is preggers so has even more reason to reach Vinder. The joy/fear of that moment might, you know, help us engage with them? In the end the only thing the Serpent did was let the Sontarans invade Earth again and they managed to wipe out all the doggos anyway so they didnt even need help. Its that or you cut Kate and Bel and make it more to do with Vinder going after the Serpent.

I don't really get what John Bishop was supposed to be before he met the Doctor. Was he just a simpleton who walked around museums taking to strangers?

Yeah I've got no interest in seeing more of Yaz. No slight on the actors who have generally tried their best but all of these thirteenth Doctor companions have been awful characters.

To think we only got one season with someone as good as Bill when so many of these wet farts have been hanging around for more than 3 years now! Hell I'd take strawberry floating Nardole over these gooseberry fools!

Yes and he says not to expect what RTD did before. Which makes me excited. :toot:

Still struggling to find the enthusiasm to get through this Flux bollocks. Just watched the Weeping Angels episode, what a collosal pile of wank that was! Absolutely nothing new there, just worse versions of what they've been used for in the past

Eve of the Daleks- Oh dear. In a moment of madness I wondered towards the end if the unseen Jeff was going to be revealed as the new Doctor who'd gone back in time and planted everything they needed in the building to survive the daleks. But no it was just bad writing.

Prediction- The chaingun daleks are never seen again and were merely the answer in a production meeting to the question "Why isn't the Doctor regnerating in these timeloops?".

I enjoyed that, although the ending was weak. I find the Daleks are at their best when there is a small number of them being menacing, which is what this was.

Also let them have the accuracy of a stormtrooper.

I typically enjoy time loop stories, I was enjoying this episode at first but then it really started to drag. Meh.

Best part of that was the teaser for next time

its always good to see a classic monster revived and I don’t think we’ve had one since the zygons about 8 years ago. Ironically that was the last classic story I rewatched. Eve was neither good or bad but it certainly added to my thinking that not everything is thought through. Why are the daleks more upset about this genicide more than all the other ones? Why the tardis need to restart instead of usual self repair? And if it was cause of the flux why wait a week? Why did they have Gatling gunsticks if they weren’t more deadly than the regular kind? And since when has weirdo been a bit harsh? Just glossed over the fact that a guy was living in that place and they blew it up. I hate that yaz has feelings for the doctor, I’ve never liked it when the companion fancies the doctor.

Thought it was a bit gooseberry fool tbh. When Sarah said to the doctor that if Nick dies after the have gone past 11:55pm then it would be permanent, and that she would be next, it brings real pearl to the cast and a sense of real death.
Did I miss something? because they all died repeatedly after that time and came back.

Anyway happy to see the return of the Sea Devils
