I think RTD gets a bit of undeserved criticism. His reliance on Deus Ex Machina was tiresome, for sure, (I'll never forget or forgive how the Dobby Doctor was saved by people chanting his strawberry floating name), but he had some absolute blinders under his belt as a writer and season 4 had some of the best episodes in all of New Who. But Moffat's season's 5 and 6 were stunning, and the chemistry of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan hasn't been surpassed. I didn't get on with Capaldi's Doctor and I legit can't remember any of his episodes aside from a possible fever dream of him playing a guitar on a tank.

Jodie Whittaker deserved better - she tries so hard to carry it, and some of the story ideas are interesting but there's just so little character in the writing. If RTD can write something like Midnight or Turn Left and give her something to get her teeth into then there might be something really special because Whittaker is a brilliant actress.

I nearly wrote about that bit. It still pisses me off. Would it have killed them to just have a couple of lines of technobabble about how the TARDIS could protect everyone on Earth. But then you'd have shone a light on how daft it was they were ok in the first place.

I'm really looking forward to the right wing reviews. It's gonna be hilarious once the gay agenda™ kicks back in.

jedi jesus Doctor :x

My main hope is that RTDs writing has developed and matured. Think Years and Years and It's A Sin are probably the 2 best things he has made and thats post Who. So fingers crossed! It's also interesting that it appears its now being made "independently" of the BBC by Bad Wolf productions.

Just adding my voice to what seems to be a 'RTD had some problems but he's got to be better than fecking Chibnall' consensus.

I'm going to say it's a positive thing. Even if Russell Grant messes it all up again by turning it into a giant soap opera, at least it was watchable then.

Haven't bothered watching much in the Chibnal era. I tried, but found my attention drifted and I started scrolling through my phone. Boring stories, boring enemies, boring dialogue. Plus, it was plain everything was being done on a shoestring, and refocused towards children rather than a general audience.

My hope is that the BBC have realised this, and that he has extracted some promises about budgets and his creative licence. And that he gets some decent writers in to add new ideas and temper his sentimentality.

From the latest teaser, it looks like they've stolen the plot from one of the Doctor Who video games: a hodge-podge of recurring monsters with a rubbish reason for bringing them together.

Flux is such a crap name. Its more of an art exhibition name then a Doctor Who title. The promotion for the show during Chibbers time has been weird. I quite like the 4th wall breaking bits but then just giving us a shopping list of monsters is a bit rubbish. That said it will be nice to see those again as its been a long time.

It's up there with Praxeus and The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos.

When they announced the release date I realised I'm more excited that we're nearing the end of Chibnall's run than seeing the new series :slol:

Question for you all: would you say rose Tyler was a bit of Mary Sue towards the end?
