so the doctor isnt a time lord after all and theres no explanation about all those times they were scanned and they were identified as time lord (end of the world one such example) they are just some unknown race who happened to have all the same abilities as any time lord

have i got that right?

I think it's that The Doctor is the genetic template for all of the Time Lords, so they all register as the Time Lord race because they were based on The Doctor's genetics.

Because the writers understandably had strawberry float all idea what to do with Clara when the actress started pulling "Might leave might not" shenanigans.

I agree with Laga about the “super dark secret” being nowhere near dark enough.

The secret should have been “every time you regenerate it sucks the souls of out 2000 children”, you’ve murdered tens of thousands of innocent kids!”

If they wanted to keep the whole Timeless Child stuff in they could've gone with something like they found one child, discovered the regeneration ability, but weren't able to learn the secret of it, so in order to learn and steal it the ancient Time Lords invaded the other Universe, which was peaceful and stood no chance, and just kidnapped and tortured its people, especially children, in horrific experiments until they discovered the secret of regeneration, but in the process basically wiped out the race that it had originally come from.

You could even have had the Doctor and/or The Master be the last survivors of the original species or something. Would have been better for it to be both of them really, to keep on with them having such a strong bond from their youth that neither of them seem able to break despite being completely at odds with one another for millennia.

I don't the master would give a gooseberry fool if people were tortured for him to have regeneration, it's more about the doctor.

He might be pissed off if his entire species were wiped out so the Time Lords could steal his birthright though.

Sorry, I meant the general torturing of another race, not him being the last of his kind.

How did the master get his Regens back?

The Time Lords gave him a new set of regenerations so he could fight in the Time War. He then promptly pissed off and hid because of how scary it all was and strawberry float off was he getting himself killed for anyone else.

i had thought about that but that just begs the question why not explain that in the episode? for what was the biggest retcon in the series they left a lot of explaining out

They explained exactly that in the episode though. They said that the foundling became the founder and was the basis for all Time Lords.

As somebody who isn’t that up on the lore, I didn’t mind much of it. The Doctor being the special one is a let down though: would much rather the Master be the Timeless Child, who’s aggrieved that his abilities were stolen from him through decades of torture and experiments, and that he wasn’t returned to his home but instead used to make the Doctor and all of the TimeLords special. That way he could claim the right to destroy what he created.

personally i wouldnt have like that either, the doctor and the master are supposed to be like reflections of each other but one of them being more than what they are kind of takes away from that
