Does anyone here park as close as possible to your destination in a car park?

It boggles my mind a bit.

I always park towards the back of the car park, where there is plenty of space, it's easy and stress free.

It means I usually have a thirty second walk at most.

So often I see cars queuing and space hunting in the first row, as close as possible.

I just witnessed a large car try to squeeze into a small space, as close to the shop as they could have possibly parked, and they scratched up the car next to it. It was a youngish person, and I can't help but think if they had just parked further back in the car park it wouldn't have happened.

I realise some may be disabled, but it often seems to be younger drivers and it just seems like so much aggro and potential scratch risk just because they are being lazy.

How do you park?

As close as possible, or further back where it is less busy and more spacious.

My run-around car is an Aygo so very small and easy to park in even the smallest of spaces - if I'm in that then I'll park as close as I can. Family car is a Sportage so a fair bit bigger, I tend to park that in a quieter spot (or in the parent/child bays if the sprogs are with me).

When I'm on my own I'll happily park wherever, but when I'm with the kids I'll look out for a parent and child space or whatever else is as close as possible.

Partly for safety reasons as there will be fewer opportunities for the kids to get run over, but also because anything that limits the amount of walking time with kids is a bonus - herding children is often not fun!

Just the one? I'm sure if you were a proper BMW driver you could cover at least 2 disabled spaces. :capnscotty:

I’ve got a child seat in the back so I can always use the parent and child spaces 8-)

Park away at the back, it's just easier and it's extra time moving to where I'm going

At my flats there are residents who leave their vehicles in the front (visitors) car park because it's a few paces closer than parking in the rear (residents) car park.

I recall one resident moaning that too many residents were using up the visitor parking spaces... which meant he couldn't park his car there :fp:  .

...oh, and schools are the worst. Parents parking as close to the gate as possible, often stopping in the middle of the road and blocking traffic, just to avoid a short walk by parking slightly further away.

(Yours faithfully, Grumpy old guy from south London etc)

Why are you hanging around schools? :capnscotty:

I park where it's less crowded and just walk the extra distance. I couldn't be arsed with hunting for a close space.

I drive a Ford Galaxy so trying to squeeze into small spaces just for the sake of getting a few steps closer is more annoying than just walking it. But to be honest, I have no issue with just walking a bit further anyway, it's hardly a problem unless the weather is horrible.

I must admit that, as a single bloke, I avoid looking into the school as I walk past in case there are weirdo accusers around :dread: .

I was glad recently when I didn't get invited to kids party (it is my cousin's wee kid).

Would have made me feel like a total paedo.

Park right at the back, loads of room and less people.

Why do you think you weren’t invited?
