PostDoes anyone work at Amazon?

I've just started and I'm in 'stow'. I hate it. My question is has anybody ever heard of someone successfully getting a move to another department?

Anybody who reads the mental health forum knows that I'm not in a good place. I was hoping this new job would pick me up but it's somehow managed to get me even lower.

Maybe I'll like it more once I'm good at it and know my way around but it would be good to know the option to switch departments is a possibility.

I don’t believe anyone here works for them, but they might know somebody who does and can hopefully ask for you. Good luck RG.

I did, and know people who do. Is it warehouse work you do?

What's Stow?

I wouldn't concern yourself with what other people have or haven't done at Amazon. Everyone's situation is different. :D

Is there a specific role you want to get into? What's wrong with the current role?

Edit - Also how long have you been working there? I know the first few weeks/months are always odd at a new job, as you're the new boy and don't know anything or anyone. Ive worked at loads of places and it's always been a tougher start with things then gradually improving.

Keep working hard and you'll eventually end up with Jeff Bezos' job. #capitalism

Hope all is good bro either way.

Sounds like it's putting the products on the shelves, while everything you do is tracked with a scanner.

Nail hit on the head there. It's ten soul destroying hours of mind numbing work where you're so scared of making a mistake you're guaranteed to f@ck up.

I imagine I'll be sacked very quickly.

Sounds like you've already given up, which is a shame.

Do you have any qualification or training or experience in other areas that might get you moved to a department that suits those skills?

I don't know your financial situation, but are you desperate for work and that's how you've ended up in this situation?

If you can afford to, it suggest just packing it in and leaving, because work like that is terrible for your mental health, especially if it's getting to you at this early stage.

I went through a comparable experience in a very similar environment (John Lewis rather than Amazon).

I managed to push for a move to 'packing' and although I still despised every minute, it wasn't quite as awful as some of the other jobs. I've always been into sport/exercise etc but walking around a massive warehouse, moving about stock etc for a full shift would totally wipe me out. I would spend all my non-working time recovering for the next shift.

Is there any chance you could angle for a move to one of the packing stations instead? That would be my recommendation based on my experience.

I'm doing miles better now. It maybe just sounds like shelf stacking but it's so much more needlessly difficult. I won't get sacked now but my contract runs out at the end of January and I doubt it will be busy enough to get an extension.

That's a win - you've stuck it out as long as you have seeing you appeared to be struggling back in August. Well done, nice to hear you turned it around and are doing well.

You're not sure your contract will be extended - isn't Amazon always busy and in need of people?

Glad to hear it’s going well RG. I watched a documentary about how an Amazon factory works and I was a bit amazed, it’s like nothing I’ve seen before.
I reckon you’ll be kept on if you’ve had your socks pulled up most of the time, but if not it’ll look good on the cv. Good luck!

I did apply myself as I'm a forklift driver. But then heard the scare stories and didn't go through with it.
