Currently getting serious flack in this household over my putting celery in the spag bol I've just cooked.

So help me out here GR, am I crazy or is this acceptable?!

Of course it does. If your base isn't a combination of onion, carrot and celery then you're not getting enough nutrients :capnscotty:.

Hah I used to use that recipe all the time. That has strawberry floating everything in it to be fair.

It 100% has celery in it. Anyone who says it doesn't is simply wrong. Soffrito is the base of it, like in many Italian dishes, and includes onion, carrot, and celery.

Interesting that the thread has decided "yes" but the poll is still quite split. I think the source of the confusion is that it's common in the UK to call a simple tomato and meat sauce "bolognese sauce". As discussed, in Italy, ragu bolognese is a specific recipe that starts with celery, carrot, and onion.
