Wonder if Microsoft will be caught out by this again and be forced to release an unfinished prototype a year ahead of schedule like last time.

Most interesting thing there for me is the bit about the storage and load times. I assume it will work like the Intel Optane or AMD StoreMI solutions, but the speed and bandwidth they're talking about seems crazy for a console.

It's possible there will still be a HDD and a much lesser storage SSD will be used as a buffer. But then again, come 2020 maybe Sony can get buy 2TB SSDs and get a bulk buy discount.

The guys over at ResetEra are saying that this is a much bigger leap than PS3>PS4 and could end up costing $499

It will be 7 years on from the PS4 launch. I don't think $100 more is unreasonable if you take account of inflation. But who knows, maybe Microsoft will be selling the streaming Xbox for $100.

RE: PS4 backwards compatibility, can we expect a majority of PS4 games to run even better on PS5? Like, PS4 Pro boosted x10?

And then a return of the 12 month price cut and disgruntled early adopters.

His mention of Audio not really evolving over the last couple gens was interesting. The idea of putting the focus on next gen audio design has me pumped. With games like God of War that sounded brilliant, it makes me hype to think what the next game could be like.

GTA:V was released in 2013. I’d imagine VI has been in development for some time now.

Considering the Xbox One X was £425 at launch, that seems about right.

Thank goodness MS invested resources on BC as at start of the current gen it seemed some gamers were not bothered about this feature despite the huge back catalogue of 360/PS3. Now it seems Sony has felt obliged helped in part by the similar chip architecture but praise to MS for doing it solely for this gen.

Love the news about the SSD. I can’t wait to have a console with a solid state drive as standard. The reported load times on it seem insane, too. Really interesting that they’re keeping a disc drive, too. Perhaps it’s still too early to release a console without at least the option for physical media.

It's more to do with the fact that PS5 and PS4 share the same architecture while PS3 was a bit of a freak.

I wonder how much Sony regrets the way the PS3 was built now. Peak Sony hubris, that. Most games looked better on 360 anyway. It was madness.

+1 for getting this mainly for PS4 BC.
