A new Syphon Filter would lose the jank charm of the originals though which would be a shame!

What's the controversy? That Bend got their wish? That Sony aren't willing to potentially waste millions on a strawberry floating TLoU remake on a new engine handled by a team that hasn't a game of their own to their name? That Sony dares to do things differently to MS? Half-baked article from Schreier; he had half-story and tried to tie it to *everything* that's going on at Sony.
A shame no one from Japan Studio is willing to speak. That's the story that needs telling.
:fp: at ND going ahead with that remake. I'm glad the genius who originally thought that up is no longer part of PlayStation.

A notion: I wonder if the long awaited PS5 Factions will actually be a reimagining of the original Factions but bundled with the remake...

Yeah I don't really see the 'stirring unrest' as he puts it. Sony passed on the Days Gone 2 pitch which isn't that surprising, put the teams on other projects until they must have pitched something new and now they're working on that.

I expect TLoU remake will release alongside the HBO show.

I could see them bringing it back as a part of PSVR.

The last of us doesn’t need a remake.

And Days Gone deserved a sequel.

Wait, so they were looking to release, remaster and then remake the same game in a 10 year period

Its not even that good a game to deserve it.

Days gone should definitely have got a sequel.

:!:

Imagine if instead of regular Joel and Ellie, we got likenesses of the actors playing those roles. strawberry floating hell. The outrage would be EPIC.

Also it’s baffling how they haven’t done a PS5 version of TLOU2, making use of the new controller and all the bells and whistles.

The cynical inside me says it’s because they don’t want to release it for free as a upgrade...

PS4 version of TLOU wasn't an upgrade was it? I don't think they would have any problem putting it out as a new release, call it a "Remaster" to justify it and charge full price

I still think this is how the multiplayer is coming - packaged in as a PS5 exclusive to help justify reselling the same game.

And of course I will buy it if that is the case because I really want new TLOU multiplayer!

I was about to say how rubbish TLOU was, and then realised I'd never played it and was thinking about Heavy Rain instead. Oh well, so maybe a remaster would be good, then.

But I do think the general point about Sony's concentration on big name franchises is quite interesting. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.

But it would be kind of understandable given the costs of developing big games. And also, as they're the market leader, theres a temptation to stay that way by giving your fans what they want.

There's nothing wrong with that in the short term. But it's a trap Nintendo kind of fell into in the past; up till the Switch, you'd buy a Nintendo machine to buy Nintendo games and that ends up being quite limiting as you end up just playing to the fans.

In fairness, it's a big leap to extrapolate and say that's what's happening here just with this one thing. But it's obviously a risk for whichever company is on top at any given time. It becomes about not losing what you've got, rather than finding new audiences.

Thought my ps5 had died earlier :dread:

Went to put it in rest mode, and the screen went solid green with a hideous loud buzzing noise for a few seconds and it just shut straight off and wouldn't power on again. Unplugged it for 10 minutes and it worked again, but pretty sketchy.

Typical Sony gooseberry fool hardware.

Probably just the electronic soul of Prince Phillip being uploaded to your system, nothing to worry about

Should be a separate thread for this really.

The whole Last of Us / Uncharted remake feels like a whole load of nothing, neither is required or really wanted by anyone I can imagine. Canning them and moving anything remaining under ND feels like probably the right move.

Bigger concern here is Sony’s conservatism with new projects and small to mid-size teams experimenting with different concepts. The Gravity Rush guys being left to fritter away seems like the biggest concern. There definitely started to be a samey feel to their ‘blockbuster’ stuff by the end of last gen that needs shaking up rather than consolidating. The PS5 launch has hardly been awash with great titles and I would think I would rather see more mid - high end titles over a few years than one big mega game like Last of Us Part 2 once every 6 years. TLoU2 felt unnecessary in terms of the resources that were piled into it, how much detail there was in every nook and cranny, and how much that actually added to the game. If it was a choice between toning that detail down a bit and have another dev producing original content under Sonys wing then I would much rather the latter.

I’m not sure how I feel about Sony focusing just on the big blockbuster games. I really enjoyed games like Concrete Genie and Puppeteer in between the big Horizon’s and Uncharted’s. I get that budgets and sales are what drive them now but in a world where Microsoft have a wide range of AAA and AA studios see I’ll given a lot of freedom it seems a step back?

They struck deals for Bugsnax and Oddworld. And there's Returnal and Kena: Bridge of Spirits to come; they're not done with smaller games.
