PlayStation is an absolute juggernaut on social media, commanding gigantic followings on services such as Instagram and Facebook. As such, it’s actually quite crazy that the company still hasn’t updated either of its pages, after adding its voice to the #StopHateForProfit campaign. Sony sided with companies such as Coca-Cola, Ford, and Starbucks at the beginning of July, as firms attempt to put pressure on Facebook to improve its hate speech policies.

But despite the Japanese giant claiming that it would return to the social networks at the start of August, both of its pages remain abandoned. This is actually quite surprising, as it reaches 26.7 million followers on Instagram and an eye-watering 38.9 million followers on Facebook. And that’s just the non-paid content – it’s difficult to imagine just how many users it reaches via sponsored posts and other paid promotional opportunities.

Organic social is dead. And I'm sure I got a twitter ad for them the other day, at least.

It looks as though sony is going to clean up next gen with some major exclusivity deals. I reckon one of them is fortnite, with them being very close with epic games.

They’re going old school and locking up the next Tomb Raider.

I remember in the PS2 era Sony really went stupid with money, one of which was blocking the EU launch of WWF RAW on Xbox until I think June. But then who releases a wrestling game in June, so by that point it was pushed back all the way until September, making the game so fantastically out of date it also had to be rebranded again to WWE.

Xbox will inevitably retaliate and owners of one machine, which will be the vast majority, are going to start losing out.

Xbox's showcase revealed a large number of third party, all be it timed, exclusives. It's certainly not just Sony that does this, so I'm not sure why the focus seems to be on them?

I’m just amazed we’re now only 3 months out and we still don’t know the launch date, price, launch games, UI, specifics on backwards compatibility support with PS4, how PS Plus and Now factor in to PS5, and probably countless other important details I can’t remember off the top of my head...

If MS are that adamant about undercutting/not being beaten on price, they should just come out with a price promise and, to really put the pressure on Sony, mention the PS5 by name, or make it clear it applies to any games console launching from Sony or something.

But what I don't understand is apparently, according to them and the internet, they're not in competition with Sony.

Ooooo a game of chicken, who’s gonna cluck first?.

One of them has to give it up soon. If Microsoft don’t view Sony as competition then what’s the holdup?.

Exhibit A :

Big Phil says that they don’t view Playstation as competition.

Quite clearly Big Phil your strawberry floating lying. Sony knows it. I know it, the kids know it, even the almighty lord himself Jesus Christ himself probably knows it. You can give me all that cloud bollocks all you want. If you where telling the truth you would of given us the price already :capnscotty:

Maybe they don't view them as competition, but the fanboys sure do.

I'll get heat for this but, to break the combo breaker and circle jerk here. MS does have Xcloud, Gamepass and an estimated 1bn Windows users. Sony are competition in console hardware terms, but that's literally it, it doesn't compete in the PC gaming market along with Streaming services and PS Now is not as big as Gamepass.

Hi Photek. ;)

If company X reveals a price then company Y reveals a cheaper price, then company X can price match it but it will look reactionary.

They're not revealing a price though, not at first. And XB will have better value and potentially be cheaper - looking reactionary won't matter. And would the majority of console buyers (you know, not people who spend multiple hours on gaming forums engaging in a pissing contest) even care about a company looking reactionary more than they do about the bottom line? Of course not.

Yes, gamers care about price first but it's clear now that there has been a stand off. Microsoft announced two conferences and they've now been and gone and the Xbox Series S has yet to be revealed, and Sony have yet to reveal OS, and all the third party triple A games have yet to be shown. So it's clear that they are both dragging this out because they don't want to put all their cards on the table first!
