PS5 launch line-up confirmed:

EXCLUSIVE

Astro's Playroom
Destruction AllStars
Demon's Souls
Godfall
Marvel's Spider-Man Ultimate Edition (Remastered)

EXCLUSIVE PS4/5

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Sackboy: A Big Adventure

MULTIFORMAT

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
DiRT 5
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Watch Dogs Legion
Borderlands 3
The Pathless
Bugsnax
Fortnite
Just Dance 2021
Maneater
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
NBA 2K21
Observer: System Redux
Planet Coaster: Console Edition
Poker Club

Ubisoft releasing two big open worlders on the same day is a bit silly.

(BTW, this list doesn't include games that are getting patched upgrades, such as FIFA and Cyberpunk)

I don’t think there’s such a thing for PS5. PS4 games don’t get patched to become PS5 games, the PS5 game gets released and (in some cases) you get that for free if you bought it for PS4.

Some PS4 games might get patched to unlock frame rates so PS5 will run them better in BC boost mode, but you’re still just playing a PS4 game via backwards compatibility. You’re not going to see better graphics or instant loading or anything.

Games like Control: Ultimate Edition and Cyberpunk 2077 are getting patches to use next gen console features are they not?

Not a bad list of titles tbh, games like Watch Dogs and AC I'll probably get on PS4 to tide me over til I get a PS5.

Nah, you just get the PS5 version for free when they’re out. They’ll not be using the activities or hints or anything like that from the UI demo, but the PS5 version that you eventually get will.

Graphically it’ll look the same as on PS4, just possibly at higher framerates and resolution if those are dynamic

The PS4 version of Cyberpunk will work on PS5 from day 1 with minor enhancements apparently and a more "robust" upgrade patch will come along at a later date.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 will get a free upgrade for PlayStation 5

"I can confirm this is not the final update," CD Projekt exec Michał Nowakowski said. "At some point we will have a more robust update for next-gen which we plan to give free of charge to anyone who purchases the PS4 or Xbox One version.

"But in any case you will be able to play the game on next-gen from 19th November when the game releases and it will look better than on current-gen from that moment as well."

Yes, it will be running in backwards compatibility so if the resolution or frame rate is dynamic, that will be better when played on a PS5. But no PS5 feature is going to be in the PS4 game. Not the Dualsense haptics, not the activities, not the hints, not the instant loading (though it will be much faster anyway).

The later “upgrade” will be you literally downloading a different copy of the game. It will not be a patch on PS5.

I wonder if they'll reveal how much work goes into making next gen versions of games rather than just using whatever PC settings the machines can cope with.
I'd assume the PC versions at full max settings will still be the best version of the games available purely because they'll be making games with the 3080 cards in mind and maybe even beyond that in some cases but I'd be interested in seeing the differences.

It's not going to be an inconvenience for very long, but having to reinstall/download the whole bloody game again for what are patches on PC and Xbox is, well, rubbish. I can see that being one reason to plump for the physical disc-based PS5 version rather than the PS4 branded one. For example you put a number of hours into the PS4 copy of DiRT 5, only to realise it's all been a waste of time and you've now got to download the entire game again on PS5 and your progress isn't worth a toss.

Thinking about grabbing these headphones for the PS5 and Series X

https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-7x?country=GB&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuL_8BRCXARIsAGiC51Bw4aL_gshm_tmvXxkCPtCglmrmtxaeZ0vPMzEonCDN6O9OJkSX7EEaAmhdEALw_wcB

Seems compatible with all the consoles as you can flip a switch on the USB dongle. Has anyone used these headsets? Just wonder what the sound quality is like and how comfortable they are.

4 modes confirmed for Devil May Cry 5:

  • 4K, 30fps, Ray Tracing ON
  • 1080p, 60fps, Ray Tracing ON <---- DEV CHOICE
  • 4K, 60fps, Ray Tracing OFF
  • Up to 120fps, Ray Tracing OFF (resolution not stated)

I guess if you want 4K, locked 120fps, with Ray Tracing On you'd best wait for the PS5 Pro version...

As an option, alongside a couple of different 4K modes, to get the game running at 60fps with ray tracing? That's a good thing.

Most TVs/the PS5 itself should do a good job upscaling 1080p to 4K, which presumably leaves ray tracing as the bigger visual improvement?

Seems like the disc version has a delayed release of 1st December, for some reason.

I'll definitely be going 60fps on DMC5. Will just have to decide between 4K or ray tracing.

Yeah more options is always the better position and this is a great move from Capcom to include these choices for the player.

Will be interesting to see how well implemented Ray Tracing effects are on these first wave of games and whether it is worth the cost to FPS or resolution

I understand the want to play souped up versions of current and previous gen but it's almost obsessional on here. We all love older games and their remasters are well received but it's almost as if it's the unique selling point.

I accept it's important to so many of you but really?

There's some gems from last gen that I'm looking forward to playing and some replaying but otherwise - its the new experiences with the SSD, graphical oomph and controller or the actual remade for PS5 games (hello Demon Souls) that I'm looking forward to.
The other thread is absolutely ecstatic about revamps for old games and Xbox have really done an amazing job with game pass and their attention to BC. Then again they've had to haven't they. I do get the appeal but how much of it are you actually going to play that justifies 450 quid?

For me it's a fantastic bonus. Especially if the games are smoother, prettier whatever. There's enough for me at launch to keep me going through to march. I want to play Ghosts of Tsushima as well.
