Air freight is faster than sea, but more expensive.

Cutting insight.

Plot twist: they’re using Hermes.

Both Hermes and Yodel are great round my way  DPD, too. They're all spot on. Worst I can say is, that, other than DPD, you never know just when they'll show up. Thankfully if my pre-order with ShopTo goes through, they'll be using DPD for release day delivery. You know, if I go ahead with buying the damn thing on launch

Turns out Chris Grayling signed the contracts on behalf of Sony and they’ve currently got no planes, but I’m sure it’ll be fine by October.

Hermes have given a 2 hour delivery window for a while now. I always get a text or an email with it.

Bloomberg sez:

Sony Corp. has cut its estimated PlayStation 5 production for this fiscal year by 4 million units, down to around 11 million, following production issues with its custom-designed system-on-chip for the new console, according to people familiar with the matter.

Also:

The full PS5 console may be priced as low as $449 while the slimmer digital-only version may dip below $400, according to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi.

Could that be an issue with the chip itself? Or just they don’t have the means to make as many of the chips as they would have liked

I don't think it's a capacity issue in that they can't make them because they're running at maximum. I think it's more likely to do with it being a custom chip and so the process isn't as efficient/straightforward as they expected. < wild guess

Just checked my McCain bag, it’s 1.5kg. Can anyone top that?

That would have risked bumping into David Hasselhoff and his wife.

Imagine the marketing though if you David Hasselhoff holding a PS5 chip

Going back to the issue with the chip, this is part of the reason I will be skipping launch models. In the back of my mind, with how this year has gone, what if there were issues and these first run of consoles ended up being this gens RRoD? That’s just me thinking negatively about it I guess :shifty:

I think it's more likely issues to do with production which are pretty common - failure rates in chip production, particular anything using a new process or unique design, are relatively high. Combine that with the fact that manufacturing in general is down at the moment you are going to end up with a situation where they are just able to produce far fewer chips than expected.

11 million consoles is still a lot to shift by March 21. I don’t know how many that compares to previous PS machines.
