I've lost momentum with Horizon on three occasions now, I kind of get into it for a week or so but then just find myself drifting away from it. It's a nice game and some of the combat is really great but it just doesn't really stand out in any meaningful way for me - the world, the characters, the story... it's all just "yet another standard open world game" to me.

Loaded up my save file from PS4 and it looks great!

I forgot how to play it but I'll look up at the weekend.

Loved the game but I cba with that. Will get around to it after they release a PS5 patch.

I had the vanilla disc and then bought the digital complete edition a couple of years back, save files are definitely compatible.

I didn't think this needed its own topic but when do you think we'll start seeing games that have only been developed on PS5/XSX syle hardware?

I realise it won't be for a while but will something like Battlefield 6 fit?
The PS4 and Xbox version is being developed by a separate team and is by all accounts a slimmed-down port so could they have had advanced knowledge of the specs and just used that in development or am I being a bit optimistic and we won't start seeing anything until late 2022 at the earliest?

Isn’t Returnal a PS5 exclusive? Plus there’s the new Ratchet and Clank game as well.

We also had Astro's Playroom, Demon's Souls and Destruction Allstars. So the more interesting question would be when will games go fully new gen only? It'll be a brave move for marquee releases to go PS5 and SX only so soon into the new gen considering the record number of PS4 and Xbox One owners out there who are without the cutting edge consoles.

The lack of easy availability of the new machines will also probably keep people working in a cross-generational capacity for longer

I know about Returnal, I'm asking about games that will have only been developed on next gen style hardware and as Returnal will have been in development for likely 5 years they will have started on last gen machines.

I'm unsure why you seem to feel the need to post negatively about me so often lately but oh well.

Third parties don't have much to gain from next-gen exclusives so Sony need to be pushing them, otherwise I imagine you get a situation where all the games are being released as cross-gen because not enough people have upgraded, but no one is upgrading because all the releases are cross-gen. The trend was for this to already be the longest cross-gen period even before the covid related stock issues

Do you have a source for this, Peter Crisp?

Returnal is being developed by a long-standing PlayStation ExDev (external development) studio partner. So while the game may have started development on last gen tech (there's no evidence of that) it's not unreasonable to think that Sony may have given Housemarque (the Returnal dev) pointers re the kind of tech PS5 would incorporate.

But I now see what you meant. What new gen feature sets are you looking for, Pete? Native 4K 60 fps? RT? Fast loading? Revolutionary new game design thanks to how speedy the I/O and SSDs are?

I'm just looking for something that wouldn't have been possible on last gen as so far everything seems like it still suffers from being held up by them. I think expecting 60fps ray tracing is beyond the new machines even when we get to the end of the cycle and they can squeeze every drop of power out of them.
Maybe an Elder Scrolls with much better AI and more populated cities where your actions really do affect the game.

A new Cities Skylines with much improved traffic management would be lovely.

Just something that screams Next Gen.

That games take a long time to develop?
Nope, but it seems like a pretty big game and they seem to take a bloody long time to make.
How long do you think this was in development?

4A Games has shared more about the next-generation upgrade for Metro Exodus. It runs at 4K 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and PS5, with ray-traced global illumination and other new features. This upgrade will be completely free and is set to arrive sometime later in 2021.

Oh lord. Tried Horizon on PS4 and...I can't. The framerate is just...abysmal coming from the solid 60fps PC version.

You can change mode from resolution to performance if that helps.

I just started it too and noticed the frame rate was pretty bad in the mode that favours resolution.

Framerate mode is better but it's still a 30fps cap which is never going to feel great coming off playing anything 60fps+

I've been tempted to pick up the PC version when it goes cheap in a sale as the performance (and my shitty DS4 stick drift) is part of what has killed my enthusiasm for playing PS4 Horizon
