My bad, I couldn't actually watch the video due to being on the train but for some reason presumed it to be good. There's no way they're going to be able to emulate PS3 of PS5 hardware.

It's possible, just very tricky, they've had years to get PS3 running on x86 hardware and neither Sony or enthusiasts seem to have achieved that yet.

PS Now streaming will only get better though

Excellent concept video, their design is a mismash of PS2 and PS3, I particularly like the idea of PSVR 2 having front mounted cameras for inside-out tracking.

I just hope all next gen consoles are as quiet as the One X.
I'd rather have a larger machine with more room for ventilation than a smaller but noisier machine.

I wonder when the first leaked images of devkits will emerge as surely if Q4 2020 is the date developers will start getting them soon.

Definitely, Peter! I don't really care if the machines are as big as an old VHS recorder... as long as they're quiet.

I don't think the devkit images (including controller) leaked for the PS5 until a week before the Match unveil.

The approximate specs leaked over a year before actual release though.

Doesn't need to be larger to be quieter, compare the X to the Pro size-wise and the X is the smaller, quieter of the 2.

Ooh, hopefully they'll release a nice wood-effect veneer finish "station wagon" model :datass:

Are you living in the future? Can you give us more details of the PS5?

https://kotaku.com/sources-the-playstat ... 1825152206

Most of the developers I spoke to, via phone and email and text, said they had not heard anything about plans for a new PlayStation. Even employees at Sony’s first-party studios said they have not yet been briefed on the existence of a PlayStation 5. People across all the disciplines (design, art, engineering, etc.) at major studios working on games scheduled for 2019 and beyond have told me that if there is information about the PS5 at their companies, they haven’t heard about it. (Those people said they haven’t heard about a new Xbox, either.)

What we’re hearing from developers is that most people expect Sony’s next console to be a PlayStation 5, a machine that runs games that won’t run on PS4, but that they don’t expect it for a while. At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last month, secondhand rumors I heard also suggested a 2020 release. Word from a few people was that in meetings between Sony and developers, representatives for the publisher had dropped vague hints about that 2020 timeframe. But it’s worth reiterating: When it comes to hardware, anything can change.

That link takes you to an old article from start of October?

Didn’t Kotaku’s Jason post another article late last week confirming he heard from multiple sources that the PS5 is being briefed to devs already?

EDIT: it was mentioned in the article about skipping E3

https://kotaku.com/sony-pulls-out-of-e3-2019-1830474052

It’s also yet another hint at the timing of Sony’s next PlayStation. Based on conversations with developers across the industry, I expect the PlayStation 5 to be released in 2020, and the publisher skipping E3 2019 certainly points to that.

”October 2018 unit sales of PlayStation 4 reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002.”

Yeah Sony ain't switching to next-gen any time soon.

I suppose it all depends on whether or not they have any games left for launch on PS4 after 2020 or if they're all being developed for better hardware. They could stretch out the generation to 2021 (hopefully with even better hardware for PS5) but I still think 2020 is looking like the date.

By 2020 the PS4 will be 7 years old. If there is a new beefy Xbox on the way, then Sony will not want to be too far behind it.

2020 would seem about right or maybe early 2021 if Sony don’t mind being a little behind MS.

Are the vast majority of consumers that bothered about more powerful hardware anymore though?

Usually a generation stops impressing me after 2 or 3 years, but 5 years in and games like Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima still look stunning to me.

I think unless these next-gen systems offer 4K photo realism then the jump won't be worth it like last time.

Obviously people will upgrade as new games stop being released for current systems, but they'll be doing so reluctantly rather than like last time where people were begging for new hardware after 5 years of PS360.

Vast majority of people - check
Mention some exclusives - check
Photo realism - check

Not quite Bingo yet.

Well yes, or else everybody would have stuck with their PS2/PS3s.

If MS announce a beast of a new console then Sony will be forced to follow up with one of their own, they will not be able to compete if they think 7 year old hardware can take on a powerful new Xbox.

They have to balance current success against possible future competition.

If Microsoft announce and release a new console in 3 month and Sony have nothing lined up to complete for another year their sales are going to take a hit. Consumerism basically conditions everyone to always want the latest and greatest.

As always it's going to be fun seeing who has the most cringeworthy terrible launch party.

Can Sony top the E3 church? Can Microsoft do worse than some of the frankly shameful Kinect stuff?
All we know is at least one of them is going to do something shockingly gooseberry fool and think it's a fantastic idea :slol: .
