I mean, were there a lot of people saying that?

I bemoaned Astro Bot Rescue Mission being PSVR exclusive, but only because it looked brilliant and I really, really don’t want a PSVR.

I’d rather be able to play that on a screen, and I’m sure many others are on the same boat, but I don’t think anyone would rather play Astro’s Playroom without the cool controller stuff

Astrobot on the VR is superb. One of the best platformers games and the VR added to the charm. If it isn’t VR, it wouldn’t be the same. In some instances there are some sections that you have to lean forward to see better, look above you as you direct your Astro Bot pal to rescue another Astrobot.

It’s magnificent.

To be fair it's perfectly possible to be a fan of DualSense innovations and still not like VR games, it's not like some kind of "gotcha" against someone if they hold those two opinions!

And then I remembered they're releasing the games before the consoles :fp: So yeah, just bought 'em off thegamecollectionoutlet on eBay, with the POPUPOCT20 code :phew: :idiot:

They’re releasing the PS5 games early?

Games and accessories are coming out here a week earlier than the console.

Hmm staring at the ps5 controller and games for a week would be torture.

My take on this is that you could do it, but it would be so far from the real experience that there would be no point.

It would be like trying to play Super Mario Galaxy with a NES pad.

If you don't mind me asking, how come you don't want PSVR so much?

I did worry it would be a gimmick, but there are now certain games I just would not want to play in any other way. Not trying to convince you by the way, fine it's not your thing, was just curious as to why.

I’ve owned 2 Oculus Rifts (Dev Mk II and CV1, which I still have) and VR has never been more than a short-lived novelty for me, and I’d rather just play on a screen 100% of the time. The idea of connecting so much gooseberry fool up around my TV, for an experience that tracks worse, looks worse and runs worse than something I already dislike is about as appealing to me as a kick in the dick.

Cheers, never tried Oculus Rift, and admittedly only tried half a dozen PSVR games, but didn't notice that problem. But maybe its a software problem with whatever you've tried?

I tend to leave mine connected up, with wires cunningly concealed. I'm honestly keeping my PS4 primarily for VR stuff whilst mainly jumping to the next xbox for more standard experiences. Hey, whatever, it doesn't suit everyone, and I barely played it through summer when it was sweltering hot to be fair. Except when I tried Ace Combat 7 for an hour, nearly lost my lunch and had to hold onto the ground, sweating. Traded that in straight away.

But as for astrobot, I do think it is one of those things so specifically built around the tech that if a non VR version was made, you'd just wonder what the fuss was about. A bit like playing a light gun game with analogue sticks - you really wouldn't be missing out.

Digital Foundry have put a PS5/SX video out. There's yet more DualSense gushing but this time from Richard Leadbetter.

I watched that Digital Foundry vid last night and was surprised to see even Richard Leadbetter gushing over the DualSense and how it is next-generational. I want to feel raindrops on the controller too! But more intriguing is at the end when he said "Without giving anything away and not talking about platform comparisons I think people are going to be surprised... there are surprises here." What could this possibly mean, that the PS5 grossly underperforms and people should stay away?

Is it not referring to just how much of a difference the features of the new controller bring to games on PS5?

No. They started teasing that line after they were done talking about the pads. If it's not console comparison related then what else is there?

Ahh right, I think you guys might be spot on then. Assassins Creed Valhalla appears to not be running native 4k on PS5, maybe this is related?

Ubisoft said it runs at 4k 60fps on PS5 and Series X.

Don't be concerned about my above comment on the 'surprise' as I suspect it will actually be something good!

I was really curious about Digital Foundry's 'surprise' tease too. And Giant Bomb where being equally mysterious in their video too.

It crossed my mind that each level of Astrobot could unlock backwards compatibility with the corresponding Playstation generation. But that would be a pretty mad, even for Sony!

Very much 'Shadow of the Colossus' meets 'Breath of the Wild', but looks very promising. Unbelievably it's created by a team of 3 people.

Jim Ryan indirectly confirms a new VR product will be part of the future of VR and PlayStation 5 but says it won't release this year or in 2021.

Though immersion appears to be the focal point of Sony’s PS5 push, Ryan says there won’t be any immediate leaps forward from Sony in the most immersive gaming experience, virtual reality (VR). PlayStation was at the forefront of the virtual reality market for consoles, having launched a PSVR headset in 2016. While 5 million headsets were sold by January this year, sales were slowing in 2020. There are currently no public plans for a PS5-specific headset. Instead, Sony is offering adapters to use the PS4′s PSVR headset with the new console.

“I think we’re more than a few minutes from the future of VR,” Ryan said. “PlayStation believes in VR. Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that. And we’re very pleased with all the experience that we’ve gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forwarding to seeing where that takes us in the future.”

a number of Ubisoft PS4 games are not compatible with PS5 including PSVR games like Star Trek Bridge Crew

Guessing maybe PS5 BC might have more incompatible titles than we first thought?
