People should not be shocked that state of the art M.2 SSDs are expensive. The prices will come down. Bide your time.

Plus in the long term the PS5 just using a standard drive should be a benefit, prices of SSD's have consistently fallen over time so in a couple of years you'll be able to expand the storage by a few TB at a fraction of that cost. I don't imagine MS will be able to reduce to price of their custom memory unit at quite the same rate

I kinda did get that impression from looking at photos and vids. I had those feelings about the Switch dock so I shall prepare myself for worse with the PS5 stand. It's disappointing as the slim PS4/Pro stands are pretty good; simple but solid translucent plastic that work well.

i mean there's nothing really wrong with it as such, it just feels a bit strange to be attaching a fairly flimsy bit of plastic to an otherwise expensive piece of kit!

Once it's on there you don't really have to think about it, unlike the Switch dock where you might be putting the console in an out of it several times a day

Yep, m.2 is a much more appealing long term solution to large storage. Requiring a heat sink may be a bit of a bummer as most of them are sold without them from what I’ve been able to tell but I don’t think stores are gouging PS5 owners by any means. They’re simply the more expensive option.

Had the PS5 blue flashing light error again tonight after the PS5 had entered rest mode. Upon turning the console back on it just indefinitely blinks. Had to hold down the power button and force it off, and it then goes through its whole rebuilding process and notifies me I turned off the machine wrong. :|

Dang, that sounds a pain, KK - hope it sorted itself out. I tend to avoid rest mode on my PS4 and will probably take the same approach on PS5.

Are there any know issues regarding rest mode on the PS5 then? I leave mine on rest mode a lot to charge the controller as it has the battery life of 2 hours

It seems that some users are still experiencing issues with the rest mode, Drej - as detailed here by Looper and also Forbes in June. If you're using it without having any problems, though, then that's a positive!

I had that on my PS4 and lost all of the contents on the drive and I didn't have an active PSN subscription so no cloud saves to recover

I'm pretty new to the "trying to buy a PS5 console" game and I'm already pissed off about it  .

I have been reading stock tracker accounts / advice / suggestions / made-up sh!t and I'm pretty tired of it. On the basis of the latest "hot tips" I found myself checking Argos for most of yesterday and at 4am and 7am today ( :slol: :fp: ).

Not gonna do that any more; will wait until the consoles are more easily available. Maybe 2023 :toot: .

Sony have been talking about setting a PlayStation Direct (or whatever they're called in the US) type of store for Europe, so hopefully stock will be more readily available when that happens. In 2023.

Smyths had stock as of 20 minutes ago so probably bit late now but if they have it it's likely Amazon, Game, Curry's, Argos will follow over the next few days.

I think that's the challenge - unless you're very lucky to be logged on to the appropriate store site at the moment they go on sale and can get the order through in under a minute, it's like some kinda impossible mission.

I heard that Asda had some this morning, too, but they appeared to be gone in just moments.

Mine was a bit of a fluke, Jawa - signed up to this cool-but-unlikely sounding Curry’s allocation lottery system never thinking I’d get one, and yet I did.
I followed 2 PS5 stock alert pages on Twitter which sort of helped but didn’t, but there are other ways to get in the know.

Uploaded my Avengers save, watched all the trophies ping a 2nd time, then had a cheeky 9 holes on EG.
Maybe I don’t deserve this.

Are you following any stockbots on telegram? they are usually the fastest to update and recently you have more of a chance to find options being still available to buy when they drop on amazon

I only do manual checks, really; every now and again I'll visit the Amazon or Argos websites to see if they have any in stock. I have recently looked at stock news stories online, too, but I'm getting a bit tired of the search now; too much time and too many hoops required.

Gonna sit back and wait until I can just, say, visit Amazon and place an order.
