Wanting 8K :slol:

How about they try and aim for 4K/60fps first eh.

8K-shmatekay. Resolution is great for the first viewing wow factor, be that in games, film, or TV, but res has never been responsible for drawing me into a world. So it takes more than a back seat, for me. So much so that I wouldn't mind another gen of 1080p but this times with infinite fps, and visual effects set to "Ultra".

This is what the Sony-no-show-at-E3 leaker has said PS5 will be capable of doing.

Watch now as Sony confirm 8K/14fps :slol:

4K 60 FPS is easy though, look at FIFA 19 on PS4 Pro/XBO X

It's such a vague target and doesn't take into account anything like lighting, textures, geometry complexity.

It's a pointless target too, no way all developers will aim for 60fps when games can look so much better at 30fps.

Fifa. Really? Wow. I was managing 1440p/60fps maxed out on the likes of Fifa with my old gaming laptop that had a GTX 670m in it :slol:

I hope both 8K and Ray Tracing are avoided like the plague by next gen.

4K 60fps needs to be rock solid with as many bells and whistles as they can manage as that will be a much better use of the available power.
I think if they can do that along with the expected huge upgrade to the CPU so more AI and physics it should equal quite an impressive upgrade.

Really, all I want from Sony for the PS5 is:

The ability to play PS4 games. Purely to save space under the TV, and I have a lot of digital games for the PS4. Would love to have PS3 games but that is very unlikely.

PSVR works on the PS5 and can play PS5 VR games. I mean, why not? They have made the Move controllers work on the PS4.

Same controller as Dualshock 4 but with a longer battery. I think DS4 is the best controller they have done so far.

And a 2020/1 release.

I see the latest rumours are that the PS5 will feature 8K at 120fps :fp: .

Yeah, ok maybe they can build a console that can do 8K at 120fps if they really want to release a £1500 machine but apart from me and a few others (because I'm still hurting that I was never able to afford a Neo Geo for that awesome Acrade Perfect feeling) I rather doubt a £1500 will sell all that well.

Also nobody has 8K TV's and won't for a long, long time so what's the strawberry floating point they may as well go for 16K and 500FPS it would be just as pointless.

I may be wrong but with what happened last gen, I think Xbox Two will try to be significantly more powerful than PS5.

I would imagine both companies are trying to build the most powerful machine they can so it's going to be interesting to see who wins the power battle. I just hope they also put as much thought into cooling as they did for the One X.

Can't see them being much different, they'll both aim to make the most powerful system they can for £349.

History shows that the most poweful system doesn't always win (only the SNES and PS4 have been more powerful than their rivals and outsold them).

Well balanced hardware, great software support and fair perceived value is the key to success.

Nobody’s talking about winning anything. Park it, just sometimes man, Christ.

To put your mind at ease Nick. PS5 will sell more than Xbox 2. Probably twice as much.

How do they get these viewer figures? Are they based on a few people having some sort of tracker box and then they just estimate everyone else based on the data from them?

For broadcast TV?

Yes they still use tracker boxes in some houses and then work out an estimate based on that.

For catch up/streaming they know exactly how many people are downloading/streaming but not all providers release the information.

For radio I think they still rely on a few people writing out a diary of what they listened to.

Yup pretty much. They pick a representative sample and then extrapolate out from there.

Brad Sams of Halo Infinite, XCloud, Discless XB1 rumours -

Summary

Reiterates that Scarlett is 2020
Project Roma digital attach (Your Xbox gets delivered to you with all your info already set up, including any subscriptions you bought with the console like game pass.)
Scarlett is using Zen 2 and AMD's next-gen GPU technology
"4K 60FPS is on the agenda"
Reiterates that next-gen will take a multi pronged approach (XCloud, Cheap cloud box, traditional hardware)
BC
Also heard that MS considered buying EA at one point
Heard MS is looking at Discord for acquisition
Heard their will be changes coming to the Windows store and Xbox app, a unified system.

Extra tidbit for discussion, Phil Spencer talking about next-gen hardware at the Barclays convention:

“The thing that’s interesting for us as we roll forward, is we’re actually designing our next-gen silicon in such a way that it works great for playing games in the cloud, and also works very well for machine learning and other non-entertainment workloads. As a company like Microsoft, we can dual-purpose the silicon that we’re putting in.
We have a consumer use for that silicon, and we have enterprise use for those blades as well. It all in our space around driving down the cost to serve. Your cost to serve is made up by two things, how much was the hardware, and how much time does that hardware monetize.

So if we can monetize that hardware over more cycles in the 24 hours through game streaming and other things that need CPU and GPU in the cloud, we will drive down the cost to serve in our services. So the design as we move forward is done hand-in-hand with the Azure silicon team, and I think that creates a real competitive advantage.”

It looks like the Xbox 2 should be quite a decent upgrade on even the One X.
I hope all Xbox One games can get a nice quality bump when played on Xbox 2 as that should make comparing them easy.

What would be amazing, is if somehow all Xbox 360 and X1 games got Xbox 2 Enhanced, all of them day 1 rather than a select number.

That actually wouldn't surprise me. MS seems to have learned some serious lessons after this generation. It'd be one hell of a launch announcement, especially given Sony's general disrespect for BC.

I don’t know about enhanced, but I fully expect MS to carry on with BC. It’ll be a big selling point early on in the new generation if they can point at hundreds of 360 and hundreds of Xbone games that will carry straight over.

I think Sony will embrace BC to an extent, I think PS4 games will run on PS5, but I doubt they will bother with PS1, PS2 or PS3 (other than a few select titles).
