It will blow you away. No comparison with the LG OLED's to Samsung's tech. OLED's are different planet, as you'll soon see. Amazing purchase. If you're after the best settings for all the picture modes etc (I'm sure you're all read up anyway), but I can PM you no problem with mine. Have had an LG OLED B7 for three years and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made. and that was upgrading from my beloved Panasonic plasma.

I'm going from a Panny plasma, too! (VT30.) Though my gaming telly a mid-range Sony LCD so it'll be a whole other level

Regardless, the recommended settings on rtings.c om are pretty much all you need.

only thing I disagree with is their preference for Dynamic Tone Mapping, which I would definitely have switched to 'ON' as it will be able to deal with any HDR movies you might watch with nuked nits - some Sony titles are mastered like this which is great, but sunglasses at the ready unless your panel can tone it right - which yours can with this mode switched on. You'll also want the dynamic contrast to 'Low' which is just about right.

Most important - get all that default motion and judder rubbish switched to off, unless you want your movies and games to look like a soap opera. It's all there in their recommendations anyway. Real Cinema can stay 'ON' but everything else - off off off!!

It's pretty clear what Sony's strategy is here with hardware design: to keep costs manageable with a small processor, but increase performance by blasting it with a high level of power, diverted to CPU and GPU frequencies as needed. Dissipating the heat is all down to what I'd consider an almost Toyota-like philosophy - not to reinvent the wheel (in the way that Microsoft has with Series X perhaps) but to rely upon what works and to add some extra flourishes where needed. The price we pay comes in terms of sheer volume: this is clearly going to be a huge console, relatively speaking, but the advantage to Sony is a considerable reduction in build cost.

Japanese influencers have been hands-on with the system and its silent nature has been commented upon - and I'll certainly be interested to see how that all stacks up once we're hands on with the hardware. Hopefully, that won't be too long now...

Love the help walkthrough video guides. I try to figure everything out myself but sometimes hunting out a YouTube video feels like the only option (then trying to find specifically what you need to watch is then a faff). Locking them to PS Plus feels naughty though.
