I like the idea of choice... but that "The 99 not the 1" image is a little odd. Is it suggesting that Sony is focussing on the wider, tablet-owning market rather than traditional gamers? I suspect they don't mean to instigate that thought, but it could be perceived in that way.

This is to do with their plan to make PlayStation Now/Streaming available on as many devices as possible.

This could affect how I game next-gen.

Currently the big AAA critically acclaimed games I buy physically and keep (I have similar collections for other platforms), I like a physical collection for great games just as I do with movies (I have a Blu-ray collection of films spanning 6 decades).

Smaller titles I just wait until they're on PS+/PS Noe, download or stream them then delete them. I buy a few from CEX too for like £5 then trade them after completing. This is similar to how I regard movies I don't seem as classics, I stream them on Amazon/Netflix but they're just throwaway to me really.

Going forward if the streaming service becomes available on our smart TV in the bedroom I might consider moving away from physical completely, but right now I'm reluctant to.

I personally just want to be able to have my own hardware in my house that I can access remotely via t'internet. I don't want them to provide me with a cloud service that I'll probably only be able to access if I buy the digital copy of the game or subscribe to a service.

I'm massively pro technology advancement but massively against those advancements being centralised to a single authority and managed by a corporation.

This games as a service gooseberry fool can strawberry float off.

I'm gonna go play on my SNES.

Same here apart from the Snes bit.
While I have ok net access I'd still prefer a home console for next gen.
We've all seen how often services go down and my internet isn't rock solid at all times and it'd be really annoying not even being able to play single player stuff because it's gone tits-up again for no reason.

All I'm imagining are those janky Mass Effect Andromeda faces but now with swish hair tech.

Somehow that'd make them look worse :dread:

It'd be incredible if they could pull it off next-gen though, I'd love to see it used in the next iteration of Horizon, Tomb Raider or the upcoming Resident Evil 3 Remake.

Capcom, arguably, have the best hair rendering tech right now (ignoring Clare from Resi 2 Remake)

Cross play between PS5 and PS4 confirmed

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/05/ ... y_confirms

Cross-generation play was brought up during the company's most recent investor relations question and answer session. When talking about backwards compatibility in general, vice president John Kodera was quick to add that cross-generation play will be important to the PlayStation community. Keeping existing players invested is clearly of high priority to Sony as it looks to introduce the PS5, supposedly next year.

Yeah, that's running on a very high spec PC and there's definitely a reason there's only one model in the frame.

Jim Ryan confirming/reiterating backwards compatibility with PS4, solid-state drive as standard, cross-generational play between PS4 and 5, native 4K with 120Hz gameplay and the possibility of playing games in 8K: https://www.cnet.com/news/sonys-playsta ... n-console/

I really hope they don't bother with 8K.
The next gen will be at a decent place for 4K as the One X can do 4K ok but with room for improvement.
I'd rather have 4K 60 rock solid with extra bells and whistles than a machine that struggles like strawberry float to try and hit 8K which almost nobody will have a TV capable of anyway.

I have a mountain of PS4 games to play.

Backwards compatibility would be huge for me. I probably wouldn’t be there at launch but something will get released that’ll push me into selling off my Pro to get a 5. And that something will happen much sooner if I know I can transfer my unplayed stack of games.

How are we even talking about 8k though!? I haven’t yet caught up to 4K. Would you even notice the difference on a normal sized TV?

Definitely, Peter. For consoles, 4K (real, not checkerboard) is relatively new tech and 4K 60 FPS delivery would be, to me, more attractive than a (possibly fudged) higher resolution.

Yeah, as a fan of the PS4 and with a number of games that I'd like to put more time into, I'm not in a rush to get a new console. If the PS5 were to be fully backwards compatible, though, that would be a big factor in getting me on board.

I think i’ll have to get an 8tb hdd to fit my ps4 back catalogue in and ensure its future proof. Can’t wait for the ps5.

I'm expecting two versions. One with a very small SSD to keep costs down (500GB), and one that is drastically more expensive.

I'm hoping for a true £900 mega beast for the ages with 4K Ray Tracing and 16TF.

A real successor to the Neo Geo of old that only the hardest of the hardcore gamer will ever even see. It's time to make gaming great again.

I'd expect there to be a PS5 Pro somewhere down the line.

It would be nice to see what the console designers can do when given such a large budget though.

I don’t think its a great idea to launch with two models and one being much more powerful than the other, but it works for apple, so maybe it could work?
