They'll most likely find some way to make money out of what accounts to changing your graphical settings from medium to ultra.

This is the main reason I won’t be buying games like Cyberpunk next year, I’m sure they will release an upgraded PS5 version near the new systems launch.

I don’t think we’ll get remasters as such on PS5 or the Xbox. It’ll likely be a continuation of what Microsoft have done with BC on Xbox One X.

This would be nice, but I feel these games will see massive upgrades, which will justify a re-release. I think games like Cyberpunk will run at a higher resolution, with better textures and framerate. If the game is great, I do not mind buying it again, although may even wait a few months and get it on the PS5 at launch.

I just hope that PS4 games run on the machine day one without any issues so I can shift my PS4 Pro. A large hard drive will also be needed at launch, maybe 8TB installed.

Suspend gameplay option confirmed with a lower energy consumption than PS4. Via UN Climate Summit.

I am also very pleased to announce the next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.

More PS5 news! What with all these official 'leaks' we'll know everything about the console before it's revealed, but it's all good low-key hype building.

I really hope we don't see this kind of approach being taken, if consoles are going down the PC route of having iterative improvements on the same core architecture then we really should be seeing the same approach taken for game upgrades. When you get a better machine you get to play all your existing games but can crank the settings can up higher.

Something like Cyberpunk is not going to be heavily re-worked between PS4 and PS5, at least I would be very surprised if they do, they're just going to let the new consoles access the settings that current high-end PC users will be able to on launch. Buying it on PS4 should let you play on PS5 as well with the related settings upgrades enabled.

If something is genuinely being remastered and upgraded (new models, design changes etc.) then fine get people to buy it again, but if Sony start wanting people to buy something again when all they are doing is switching some graphical settings in the game engine then they can jog on!

I hope the BC on this is like you mention and everything gets significantly bumped.
Didn't they demo Spider-Man PS4 on the PS5 demo hardware and it reduced loan times etc.. something like this for everything would be great!

First time in here but like Suzzopher said, I think the days of remasters are dead, Gears 5 PC settings seen as a future proof of it for the next Xbox, DF are pretty certain that all the extra bits and bobs will be unlocked for the new console generation and although this is an Xbox First party game, I'd presume most publishers to do the same, as in, unlock the ultra/insane settings (in PC versions) on the newer consoles.

Techradar wrote:Based on previous console launches, it'd be safe to assume that a standard PS5 machine will get released first, followed by a slimmed-down model shortly after and a beefed-up 'pro' version a few years later.

However, a new rumor has cropped up suggesting that Sony will cut to the chase and launch the PlayStation 5 Pro at the same time as its base-model PS5.

As spotted by Wccftech, noted Japanese games journalist Zenji Nishikawa made the claim in a new video on his YouTube channel, and while that kind of thing normally wouldn't be considered a rock-solid lead, Nishikawa has proven accurate in the past with his predictions of the PS4 Pro and Switch Lite.

According to Nishikawa, the PS5 Pro will cost around $100-$150 more than the basic PS5 console. The report states that Sony is taking this approach because it has "acknowledged the interest in a high-end model and wants to give players what they want right from the beginning of the generation."

Of course, it's hard to imagine what a 'Pro' version of the PlayStation 5 might look like, given that the base model's confirmed specs already indicate that it'll be a beast – at the PS5's announcement, Cerny revealed that it'll boast 8K TV support, an 8-core AMD chipset based on third generation Ryzen architecture, a GPU based on the Radeon Navi family, ray-tracing capability, an SSD storage system and backwards compatibility with PS4 games and PSVR hardware.

A bigger SSD seems a cert if this turns out to be in any way accurate.

Playstation 5 hasn't really been on my radar because I thought it was years away. I'm having a bit of trouble what rumours we can kind of take as red. Without searching Wiki says

Future systems
Mark Cerny, in an interview with Wired in April 2019, stated that Sony was working on a fifth, yet-unnamed PlayStation console (unofficially referred to as the PlayStation 5) that will serve as its next-generation entry. According to Cerny, the console will use AMD's Ryzen with the 7 nm Zen 2 architecture, and with a Radeon Navi-family GPU which includes support for real-time ray-tracing rendering. The new console will ship with SSD storage, as Cerny emphasized the need for fast loading times and larger bandwidth to make games more immersive, as well as to support the required content streaming from disc for 8K graphics resolutions. The new unit is said to be fully backwards-compatible with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles, with Cerny stating that the transition to the new console is meant to be a soft one.[69] While supporting streaming games, the unit is expected to include some form of optical disc drive, confirming that games for the system will still ship on physical media.[70] Industry rumors stated that Cerny's statement coincided with shipping of the future console's software development kit to third-parties as to stave off further rumors.[71] Sony's financial report for the quarter ending March 31, 2019 affirmed that new next-generation hardware was in development but would ship no earlier than April 2020.[72]

The next-gen console has been planned by Sony to offer cross-generational compatibility, which will enable players to switch playing a game between the PlayStation 4 and the next-gen console with progress intact

The two rumour I'm most interest in though can we be fairly certain that;

1. Its going to be released next year?

2. It will be backwards compatible with PS4 games?

My PS4 died last month and I was going to replace in but there aren't that many games I really want to play (that Brexit Watch Dogs game looks interesting though) - but might stay in my Nintendo Switch bubble and hold out until PS5 if it is coming out next year and has backwards compatibility

Edit: It would be cool if I they do something with VR are too. I understand it got a mixed reception but I enjoyed it. It would be cool if the PS5 could use the PS4 VR head set but not holding my breath

If I was to get a PS5 I would choose the Pro model over the base for sure. I don’t like the idea of it coming at launch though, I much prefer them to release it 3 years later so I can trade my base PS5 towards it.

Not only that, but what technological advancements could happen over those 3 years? PS5 Pro could be a much better machine if it launched a few years later

I guess it depends on just how premium this supposed PS5 Pro is going to be. Article says $150 but I’m sure for an even higher price they could bring what would be mass market-ish 2024 technology to 2020 if they wanted. Maybe one way they feel they can still claim to be the most powerful machine on the market is by releasing an ultra high end model at an obscene price point.

It would be interesting to see how big the market is for something that would presumably cost at least £600. They did shift a lot of £425 PS3’s initially in the UK before hitting the wall.

Obviously they’re not releasing a £1000 PS5 but I’d be curious what a £600 or £700 console could do, but like today it’s always going to be hamstrung by the base systems.

It'd be interesting to see Sony do a modern day version of the Neo Geo and have an absolute powerhouse console for the rich kids (I never had a Neo Geo  ) just to see what that would look like with 2020 components.
I'm not sure a hyper expensive console will ever sell all that well and with the diminishing returns on power we're seeing just how must difference a much more powerful next gen console will make over base PS5 and Xbox Scarlet but seeing what Sony think they can afford for a beast machine compared to a top of the line PC would be interesting.

As long the base model can do 4K and HDR, then I'm satisfied.

How much did you pay for your phone? The fact is apple will make a massive profit on your shiny new iphone, Sony may not even make a profit. Happy to drop £1k if need be tbh if its a real powerhouse.

No point having a £400 console with a minor upgrade, especially compared to the ps4 pro.
