Just Photoshop innit m8.

I don't think they even bothered with that. Just found the font they used for the PS3 slim and PS4, pressed backspace on the number, and typed "5". Job done, let's have an extended lunch.

EDIT: With nothing but Microsoft Paint, I have saved Sony the effort for the next couple of console generations:

I don't have any graphic design skills but even I can see that 7 is utter gooseberry fool! (no offence). Sharp edges it doesn't even match. The 6 actually looks perfect. What do you mean you did them in MS Paint - you actually drew out the shapes?

Victor Mistletoe wrote:How do you know it's lazy? For all you know the team went through weeks of concepts and iterations before someone decided to stick with the safe one for consistency. Just because you don't see how someone arrived there doesn't make it 'easy'.

It may be just that. It looks boring because it's the same but Sony may want to maintain that message of consistency and dependability - so gamers, go back to / stay with what they know. Although... all Sony did was hit backspace and type a 5! But I actually like this fan concept. The original PS symbol is great but maybe the letters in PS2 colours is too much and they would be good in white.

Hopefully it means all the money they saved on graphic designers wages will go into creating a controller battery that isn't complete gooseberry fool.

It's a slim hope but it is hope.

Sony have always been pretty unadventurous with their branding but then why wouldn’t they when they nailed it decades ago?

Change that to a high hope! The ‘DualShock 5’ patent doesn’t have a lightbar, the primary cause of battery drain. So battery life will likely be longer. Which also suggest it won’t be needed for PSVR2.

No, as stated above, I just downloaded a free font and used that.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 logo looks to be the most popular Instagram image of all-time from a video games company, according to analytics gathered by VGC.

Less than 48 hours after it was posted, the PS5 logo image has amassed almost five million likes and 136,000 comments, easily surpassing the second-placed image post, Fortnite’s Avengers Endgame crossover announcement from April 2019 (2.7 million likes).

The analysis includes what VGC understands to be the top 20 most popular video games and video games company accounts and does not include influencer profiles.

Sometimes unoriginality and not reinventing the wheel is the best option.

But we don't know how many likes a brand new logo would have got.

Perhaps it would have got 6 million likes...

Funny thing about Blast Processing: it never stuck with me because I'd never heard of it at the time! I was neck deep in MD gaming; bought the games, the mags, read Digi on a daily basis... my first recollection of Blast Processing? Long after (decades?) I put my MD away.
What I do know is that some say it was PR talk, while I have seen YT videos suggesting it really was a Thing.

I suspect it was a thing...in the USA.

I'm no expert, but if I recall Blast Processing was a term used to describe something that the MD system could do and the marketing people jumped on the phrase and basically co-opted it to mean something completely different. I also read that no retail games ever released for the MD ever actually used the "real" blast processing feature, but don't know if that's true or not.

Wasn't it just a marketing name for direct memory access?

Blast processing sounds fun, but it's no emotion engine.

Blast processing was a marketing term coined by Sega of America to promote the Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis in that region) video game console over its nearest rival, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), in North America. "What makes the Genesis the superior machine?" It has "blast processing".

While the Mega Drive is indeed capable of faster processing performance than the SNES, particularly due to the Mega Drive's Yamaha YM7101 VDP graphics processor having a faster DMA controller along with higher memory bandwidth (see Sega Mega Drive/Hardware comparison for a technical comparison with the SNES), the term "blast processing" itself was vague and unclear, due to a lack of technical explanation from Sega. The term is thus open to interpretation, and has been interpreted in different ways, as a reference to either the Mega Drive's faster performance, its higher CPU clock rate, its DMA controller, a specific DMA color technique (which is apparently what inspired the term), or just a meaningless marketing gimmick (as claimed by Nintendo). In more recent years, the term "blast processing" is occasionally used as a reference to the fast blitting capabilities of its DMA unit (see Sega Mega Drive/Technical specifications for details).

Blast processing is obviously where they really force the 1's and 0's into the processor to get its maximum attention.
All the other processors just get them handed to them nicely and get round to processing them eventually.

If that means it increases the MD's colour palette then yes! That's what blast processing did: improved one of the areas the SNES handily beat it in. Only a total of ZERO games took advantage of it because there was a flaw in the processing :slol:

When is Sony's next conference or is it now a case of waiting for E3?
