I'll watch this when I get home tonight. Sony have reassured us that an announcement won't end with "preorders open now!" so I don't need to check in while I'm out.

Well, Eric Lempel said they wouldn’t just suddenly say “preorders are live” with no forewarning (prompted by an old rumour that they were to open on some random Monday evening).

That doesn’t mean that tonight’s event can’t say preorder now, because it has been announced in advance. Tbh, I liked the idea of what they did in the US with advance preorders direct from Sony, where they check your PSN history and only give the preorders to the more active users. If it’s going to be in short supply it seems like a smart way to tell scalpers to strawberry float themselves

Wouldn't be too bad for scalpers, they can just buy up compromised PSN accounts as needed

As a bizarre tangent, I'm taking part in a Covid-19 study for the Office of National Statistics, where I'm being tested 16 times over the coming months, and I get a £25 voucher per test. So the pandemic is paying for most of my PS5.

Just a timely reminder of what Kaz Hirai said back in November 2006...

I think that when we ask the consumers to make an investment in software, it's our responsibility to make sure that the future consoles that we bring to market, including PS3, are able to actually play ALL these titles that the consumers have really spent a lot of money on. And I think you're doing the consumers and the gamers a huge disservice when you come out with a new console only to say it only plays PlayStation 3 games, and that's really counterintuitive to our strategy, but also, really, to the Sony DNA.

Look forward to the surprise bombshell announcement tonight then of PS5 being able to play PS1, 2, 3 and 4 games...it's in their DNA, you see.

Going by previous event's video intro, only use Sony has for its back catalogue is to talk about it. They're not actually interested in doing anything with it; they just want everyone to know they've been here since PS1 era.

The potential of getting to see FF XVI is killing me but I won't be super hurt if it's not there. Realistically I feel like it might be FF7R related.

I don't think there will be any new announcements at this event, apart from the price and release date. I just expect to see more gameplay of titles we already know about.

BLOG POST SEZ: Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.

That can be taken to mean updates of what's already been shown, or fresh reveals. (There's plenty of long rumoured stuff that we haven't seen anything of yet.)

"Updates" would suggest known quantities, wouldn't it? If they show gameplay from DS, SSMM, HFW and reveal the price and release date, I'd be really happy.

Wonder if they will announce a 1.5tb/2tb model but just for the digital model.

I reckon we’ll see at least the Silent Hill reboot.
