There's no way it'll be up to date at all. I reckon it'd me several seconds (at least) behind.

Yeah, I'm kinda getting the impression that a large 4K screen could be a must for the PS5 and Xbox X consoles. I have to factor a TV upgrade cost into the overall bill... it'll be some time before I go next gen!

Sounds like something developers might be able to block when they need to like they could with some of the share functions on PS4.

I like the idea of joining a friends party on Apex or something, and while waiting for them to finish their match, being able to watch their game on screen while I wait.

Also, Eurogamer/Digital Foundry had a hands on last night, with an interview:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digi ... -interface

"Ultimately, everything we've seen so far of the new user interface suggests a degree of innovation that may well border on outright revolution"

If Sony really push with the whole "We believe your play time is precious" I can see them gently leaning on devs to include cards for the majority of games.

Oh look: (From DF interview)

"So, Activities is the way the inside of the game context is exposed - we are asking developers to expose this data so it can be integrated with the system UI and that can be shown as a card, so that's one thing," he says. "The other one is Official Game Help - so we can show the Official Game Help video when you are stuck in the game, you can bring up the cards, and you can watch it... So these are all from metadata coming out from the games and linking back to the associated data. So you're right, we are asking publisher and developer to provide us the best insight information to the system. But without having the user going into the game deeply, the user can see it and the user can jump back into the game quickly."

They should gently lean on them to provide cross saves also then. ;)

Interesting, if its coming directly from metadata its really no extra work to assign these any differently to say, trophy support.

Sod cross saves! They should include an index! With the speed of the SSDs and I/O we should now be able to scrub through the timeline of a game and jump into the action at any point. "But what about my experience points and loots?!" I'm sure the devs/pubs could figure something out. But yeah, cross saves would be nice.

TBH these 'community' features never pan out with devs. I mean every single game on Xbox has a 'club' but devs rarely support them, only first party devs do and only cos they're probably told to.

I'm a bit confused by this cross save negativity though tbh, cross saves are there in the majority, its just dev dependent. And there's relatively few cases of cross saves not in the works from what ive seen.

Arent he game clubs on xbox are a different thing though? Theyre meeting places/online communities related to a game, and arent they all community related, and almost used for LFG kind of stuff? Custom backgrounds and people join and message and all that jazz?

These activities are completely different from that judging by the video.

The startup sound was already revealed back when they first showed a glimpse of the UI in the presentation that revealed how the console looks

Same! It looks sumptuous. Some features may be useful, some might not. I need more time to process, I'm going to lie down.

Sackboy looks great doesn't it?!!!

Looks nice and slick, but I have zero interest in the social aspect of it.

Share play has impressively low input lag on PS4. You can use it to play local co-op with a friend online (or to just hand over control entirely for your friend to play), so it's certainly not several seconds behind.

Peter Crisp shareplayed Bloodborne with me ages ago when I was on worse internet and I played up till after beating the Cleric Beast (without dying). It was pretty impressive, the input lag was definitely noticeable but still manageable.

If it ends up being reliable and accurate, that “time remaining” feature is going to be brilliant.

I assume they just collect data on how long most people take, then compare how you typically trend against those times. It’s like a built-in HLTB, but more granular. Hope they have a similar count for whole games/campaigns.

The time left in chapter/book feature in Kindles, basically. I find that invaluable for identifying when I should stop.

What would be really nice is if they actually let you see your playtimes

Yep+"how long have I got left" and "how do i beat xyz" are 2 things I often pause a game and pull out my phone to check. Having both those built in is a brilliant feature.
