I am genuinely a little pis*sed off that Sony hasn't devised a way for PS4 owners to check their playtime; you can only do so via a PS5 :fp:  .

PS4 owners can check their playtime, but it costs £359.99 or £449.99.

I don't believe any 'trustworthy' retailers are. From what I've seen online, most places should be getting or releasing stock on Jan 7th or 12th.

Any retailers in particular?

The usual places like Amazon, Currys, Argos and Smyths I think. Apparently EE and BT will have them on the 7th if you have a contract with either of them and have registered interest.

Bear in mind this is all from Twitter 'insiders' who have been wrong almost every time for the past two months.

I got a PS5 for Chrimbo - enjoying a lot as never had a PS4/Pro.

I was actually most excited to finally play The Last Guardian, especially as it runs at 60fps IF FROM THE DISC AND WITHOU UPDATES. That is because later updates added a locked rate to improve PS4 performance.

So I was excited enough about this to actually buy a disc despite TLG being available on the PS Plus collection for free.

It works beautifully at 60fps - and now I don't think I could go back. Trico appears so real and convincing when animated smoothly.

The only problem is it keeps downloading the updates even if you have Auto-Update turned off.

The only way I can play is to play with internet turned off and disc in, but even then it decides to update when reconnected even if the disc is out. So I've had to resort to deleting and reinstalling several times.

Now I've given up and instead am just adding motion smoothing in the TV settings (the one that makes film look like cheap TV). This actually simulates 60fps near perfectly, with the only downside being a slight input lag. But because TLG is such a weighty, (purposefully) clumsy controlling game anyway I don't think it makes much difference in truth.

Still though, annoying my disc experiment failed - unless anyone else has any ideas?

No other way around it I'm afraid. I hope they eventually do a quick update to unlock the frame rate as I never got round to playing it and I'm holding out in the hope it gets updated.

I've noticed if you're watching a 4K HDR programme on Amazon Prime Video via the PS5, it displays fine; if you're watching non 4K or a 4K show that isn't also in HDR, then the image is too dark and dimmed. From what I can make out, this is because the PS5 has HDR enabled as standard. It's a very similar look in terms of a dimmed picture to those who were viewing 4K BBC iPlayer content on certain systems but without the HDR enabled, so you could at least overcompensate with that by altering your TV settings (such as Vibrant or Sports modes). With the PS5, as HDR is on, it locks the TV menus so there's nothing you can do about it.

It means I'm currently having to bounce between 3 versions of Amazon Prime Video depending on what I plan on watching. My TV displays Amazon in 4K HDR but can have a lousy framerate; the PS4 has a great framerate but only goes up to 1080p; and the PS5 is perfect but only when watching native 4K HDR content.

It's a minor inconvenience.

I'm pretty sure it was the same with PS4 Pro and One X when using Netflix - everything is in an HDR container.

I downloaded and played for 10 minutes last night Maneater (free on psplus) and it seems like it will be a lot of fun although possibly a little repetitive, the style for some reason reminds me of games on the Dreamcast (I love the Dreamcast) I think it will be a game I just have a quick 15 mins on after playing another game

Warzone 689 hrs
Last of us 2 71 hours
Spidey Miles Morales 12 hours.

First two obviously include PS4 playtime.

So I've had the PS5 since launch and purchased precisely zero games so far, although that will change.

This may have something to do with the 20 PS4 Plus Collection games at launch (9 of which I nabbed), Astro's Playroom, three PS5 games and four PS4 games that we've been given so far in that time. Plus my existing Plus backlog. As things stand, Ratchet and Clank is probably going to be my first actual PS5 purchase...

Hard crashes are more frequent for me now.

I wonder is it still COD Cold War causing them or the PS5 firmware itself. Frustrating.

The black ‘PS2 inspired’ PS5 from SUP3R5 officially sold out after going on sale on January 8, but all orders have now been cancelled after the team behind the nostalgic makeover apparently received "credible threats" to their safety.

In a statement via Twitter, the SUP3R5 team said: "Last night, our team began receiving credible threats to their safety. We take these threats seriously. We aren't willing to risk the safety and well-being of our team, or the potential impact this would bring on your order."

twitter.com/sup3r5official/status/1347932373275586560

It's unclear whether the threats have been issued by disgruntled customers who missed out on securing a console or whether Sony has stepped in and threatened legal action, but we'll be searching for more answers in the coming days such as whether customers are indeed receiving a full refund and why users seemingly can't delete their payment information.

Unfortunately, for those who did manage to snag one of the 304 PS2-themed PS5 consoles on sale, all orders have been abruptly cancelled.

"All existing orders will be cancelled and fully refunded in the coming days," SUP3R5 said. "We intended this to be a fun way to celebrate a shared nostalgia. As it turns out, there are people out there who are willing to interfere with that."

Hard reset

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the black PS5 launch did not go smoothly. Many users encountered payment issues and were charged for pre-orders that weren't actually available.

Production of the black PS5 was limited to just 304 units, and demand far exceeded expectations: a trend that has become all too familiar whenever PS5 stock has appeared.

Before cancelling all orders, SUP3R5 previously apologized on Twitter for the frustration some users faced, and vowed to do better in the future. The team also clarified what will happen to those who were charged mistakenly, though now everyone who placed an order will be refunded.

Buying an unlicensed and unofficial product is always a risk, though why people seem to think they can go around selling products without approval of the license holder anyway is beyond me.

It looks like there won't be a new Killzone game for the foreseeable future. The Killzone website now just re-directs to the main PlayStation site, meaning that you can no longer create or manage clans in Shadow Fall.

Guerilla wrote:We apologise for this inconvenience. Thank you to Killzone.com's many fans and visitors throughout the years for their enthusiasm and support.
