You know how games sales surged last year, when people were locked down and in need of home entertainment? Well, one delightful consequence is that Activision Blizzard met certain share value thresholds. Of course, the CEO is entirely personally responsible for when things go so right, so they’re giving Bobby Kotick a bonus. $200 million. You know the jpeg.

In definitely unrelated Activision Blizzard news, the company has reportedly laid off 50 employees. But it’s OK. They’ll get 90 days’ pay, health benefits for a year and a $200 Battle.net gift card.

This is like the 10th time they've done this. iirc all the big western companies do it now
Can you imagine firing someone and then giving them a giftcard for your entertainment company; were I an ex employee I'd want to keep well away from that gooseberry fool.

It's apparently more like 100 employees laid off I think

They’ll probably have to share the gift cards then.

It's such a difficult time for CEOs like Bobby, having to spend hours getting rid of hundreds of personnel numbers whilst having the worry about how to avoid paying any tax on that small $200m bonus. There's a lot of expense going into producing those extra gift cards, too; it's a real show of generosity in the face of adversity. It's a tough gig and thank goodness there are people around who are ready to pick up the reigns and selflessly take the big decisions to steer wealthy global giants through this downturn.

I approve of the new thread title, pity it's not true though.

That's the real kicker. Being laid off with a bonus pay in the form of the gift card for the same company who just strawberry floated you over

I liked the manure topic title more. This one is far wittier but does not indicate excrement at any point.

These constant title changes are great

Wonder if I can get a t-shirt printed that reads "Eat Bobby Kotick"

With the gift card they can get into WoW which is basically a new job, so I don't really see the problem. It's basically a promotion.

Nothing to do with me. I don’t know who changed it to this.
