Sooo... Whilst these are decent enough ports of vanilla Doom I and II, and that's better than nothing considering this has come out of nowhere, they really don't play as well as they could considering just how much slicker modern source ports have made the game - especially where twin stick input is concerned.

It's still fun to play, but would removing the 35FPS lock and smooth input really have been too much to ask!

Doom 3 on X1 is 60fps so I’m glad I got it, back compat was 30fps, have 1 and 2 BC already.

Edit: it wax 60fps on back compat and targeted 60 on 360.

I presume resolution is higher.

Rumours abound that Doom 64 could also appear on newer consoles at some point... a PEGI rating for the game has appeared. I'd love to see this happen! As long as (a) the great "sweeping 3D view" introduction of the logo remains, and (b) the graphics are substantially brighter.

So..... while initially interested (especially at the prices), I'm not gonna be picking up these. Between the online account requirements (In strawberry floating Doom of all games) and the slower music, it's not a port I'm interested in. I've got access to source ports and have other methods of playing it portably (and legally) that I'll stick with.

Bought the first game earlier, and it's as great as it's always been.

I don't get why it needs a login if there's no online functionality?

The games have been released at a pretty low price point (£3.99) and I suspect that Bethesda are treating it as a way of being able to directly contact gamers (i.e. via email) ahead of the release of Doom Eternal. On the plus side, after the one-time setup you don't have to do it again. Even so, personally I don't like it and I could see this becoming a "thing" with other publishers.

I’m not buying Doom again. I’ve bought it about seven times over the years, including on GBA. (I will, inevitably, buy it again.)

Apparently the 360 BC versions have been deleted from the store and you can’t download them even if you own them. But it’s supposed to be an error that they’re trying to fix.

I'll have Doom 3 on the Switch thank you. Massively under rated in my opinion.

Can anybody confirm if there is subtitled included for Doom 3?

Cheers.

Is Doom 3 a port of the original or the BFG edition? I remember the latter made some changes to the graphics and game play a little? From memory I think they changed it so you no longer had to swap from gun to torch to light up dark areas you just had a light you could turn on anytime and still keep your gun equipped?

Was more practical but took away some of the horror/challenge too, can you swap between the two?

If anyone was holding off from a purchase due to the "Bethesda account sign-up" requirement, there is some good news:

Why, oh why, isn't there any online multiplayer?!

Surely there can't be anything holding it back from being capable!

Doom deathmatch with GRcadians would make me a happy old man! :(

Yeah it's a real shame, it would be so much fun (doom ps1 link up is probably the best multiplayer I've had).

This port isn't without it's quirks (some walls are 'sticky' when moving along them looking for secrets) but it's still great. Just finished the first episode.

Just got back from town where I spent money on everyone but myself, I think I deserve a little Doom treat in my life :toot:
