I asked on ResetEra and someone replied saying they didn't see any subtitle options when they played earlier :( Sorry bud.

It’s shame to be honest, but what can I do?

I haven't checked the whole thing, but this YouTube video says it has all the cinematics for the game and there are subs available for it:

It's not ideal, but you could play some of the game and then watch the video to see what was said or, watch the video and then play the game up to that point?

edit: comments for the video say he's missed some stuff out :fp:

Much appreciated for this.

On the PS Store website, it does say English subtitles included on the information page but the most people said it does not have subtitles. https://store.playstation.com/en-gb/pro ... 0000000000

It is a bit confusing but from what I can remember when I had it on Original Xbox. It didn’t have any subtitles at all and I lost my way during the game so I gave up at the end.

I'm pretty sure this is not X1X enhanced but Linneman tweeted its the best version... I presume for frame rate.

Looks pretty cool.

Doom 3 on Switch indeed looks great when docked. No complaints there. I just wish they released a version with the original Xbox Co-Op mode as that was fantastic.

First game I ever played in co-op. With LongHairStu, formerly of GR.

Digital Foundry going over the three ports. Basically Doom 1/2 = poor (Disappointing more than poor I guess) and Doom 3 = excellent.

... :o . I haven't watched it yet but will do this evening. I'm surprised at the verdict for 1 and 2... I'm eager to see the reasons!

Doom/Doom II Port Analysis

Doom appears to use software rendering while outputting at 1080p with poor scaling and borders on every console - which is the first problem. The rendering resolution doesn't scale evenly to the output resolution and, since the image is not interpolated in any way, the result is uneven pixels. Combined with an incorrect aspect ratio (a problem with many Doom ports), it's not a pretty picture. It gives the impression that monsters are shorter and wider than they should be while Doom Guy's portrait appears squished.

Despite the conversion work, this new version of Doom also retains its 35 frames per second cap -which does not divided evenly into 60Hz. In its original form, Doom was designed to run on CRT monitors at 70hz - 35 frames per second is exactly half the refresh rate, delivering consistent motion. The consoles, however, don't support 70Hz output and most will be playing at 60Hz which means uneven frame persistence leading to visible judder. Considering how many source ports eliminate this cap, I feel it was a mistake to retain the 35fps gameplay. As with Nerve's previous Doom ports, the lighting also appears incorrect and overly bright in certain scenarios.

Basically, when it comes to the visual presentation, the game looks OK at a glance but, as you play, these issues become evident which is disappointing - but it's the audio that really falls short. There are two problems here - music playback and lack of sound effect pitch adjustment and clarity. Firstly, the soundtrack seems to have been recorded using the stock Windows GS Midi and then played back as pre-recorded files. Perhaps as a result of sample rate adjustment or some other issue, the actual playback of the music is slow. Slowing down the music doesn't necessarily ruin the tunes but it is less accurate, which is the problem here. Sound effects wise, everything seems muffled and it lacks the pitch shifted audio of the earlier versions of Doom designed to increase sound variety. So its lacks clarity and variability.

All of these problems should be fixable, but in an age where retro gaming is becoming more and more popular, the number one aim in all cases should be authenticity - and these Doom ports just aren't good enough. It's still playable and it's still Doom, but you'd expect more from a brand new, official conversion.

Thanks, CD. Just watched it and I can see their points. It's kinda frustrating and I hope that updates appear, although it still feels cool to be playing Doom on a portable system :-) .

I'd love to see a full DF analysis on the Doom 3 updates and ports from over the years. I have Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil on the original Xbox and it was pretty impressive; and it also came with ports of both Doom and Doom 2!

Yeah the 35fps cap was one of the first downers I spotted on this. The lack of refinement in the controls (which is probably linked to the frame cap to a degree) is also a shame.

It's still great fun (it's Doom how could it not be!) but could have been so much better without all that much effort which is a shame.
