Apparently the switch versions have been patched to address the lighting and music issues.

Yeah sadly Doom 3 (and even BFG version) lacks any form of subtitles. Was hoping they'd add that on this re-release but I guess not.

For that reason I'm not buying Doom 3 on switch, I have pc version anyway so can mod it to include subtitles but still doesn't excuse the lack of subtitles in first place

Would explain why I didn’t finish Doom 3 beyond the first hour.

Yeah, I was the same.

Also, it was annoying to receive the PDA while it was speaking with no subtitles. They gave out some number codes to unlock the doors so I could progress through the game. No way ever I could hear so I had to use the website to give me a list of every code and I had to try each other until I got it. From there, I thought I just gave up. It was a pain in the ass.

Christ almighty. That’s very poor on iD’s part.

Playing Doom 2 on the Switch and I cant seem to progress on level 20 ("Gotcha") - I need to get across a pretty big gap that all the online tutorials (which seem to be on the PC) just show as the player speeding along and being able to cross, but on Switch your character seems to be much much slower and I keep falling well short. This was an issue on a previous level as well but luckily was that just to access an unimportant area, but this is literally stopping me get to the exit.

Anyone else had this problem?

Edit: the jump just after 2:55 here

I haven't played the switch port in a while - is the character set to autorun or is there a run button? If you're not travelling at full speed then you probably won't make the jump.

Haha, easily done!

To be fair you've done well to get that far without sprinting - Doom Guy lives for speed!

I finished episode 2 of original Doom for the first time yesterday. Made a start on episode 3 but that seems to be where the difficulty starts getting a bit silly pitting you against a Cacodemon while armed only with a pistol almost from the get go.

How do do you type IDDQD on a PS4 pad?

Episode 3 does ramp up a bit. The way it dumps you back to a pistol at the start of each episode can be a bit annoying, although it allows them to build the challenge again over the opening levels of an episode which helps control the flow a bit.

The cheats are still in there I think, not sure what the button presses are though!

For those who have downloaded the latest console versions of Doom, free add-ons are on their way, containing Final Doom (TNT + Plutonia) and SIGIL

Will definitely pick 'em up now! (When they're next on sale.)

That's a nice bonus - SIGIL is excellent. Given the unofficial status of it I'm actually quite surprised that it would be getting the nod from Bethesda.

I said it years ago and I'll keep saying it. I would (And for Sigil DID) pay good money for some of the original Doom and Quake designers to make the occasional episode of levels.

EDIT: With Sigil I actually got an email from John Romero providing me a pre-launch download link. I'm never deleting it.
