I said it years ago and I'll keep saying it. I would (And for Sigil DID) pay good money for some of the original Doom and Quake designers to make the occasional episode of levels.

EDIT: With Sigil I actually got an email from John Romero providing me a pre-launch download link. I'm never deleting it.

Nice - treasure that email!

But yeah I am right there with you, I would happily put down money for a drip feed of "official" content from Romero and contemporaries. Fortunately in the absence of that there is a near inexhaustible supply of fan WADs to keep me occupied!

I've had my eye on the Switch ports since they came out but this announcement has peaked my interest. I've asked for some Switch gift vouchers for Christmas so I'll definitely get them downloaded now.

I've not played them for a while but they're pretty solid ports. They could have done more to incorporate the kind of features that modern Doom source ports have on PC but it's still a nice way to play Doom on console.

Romero hinted in his recent AMA in Reddit he is open to making more Doom 1/2 levels, so we’ll see!

The quality of fan WADs these days is excellent though

Yeah there are so many great WADs out there and no real sign that the community is going to stop producing new and interesting stuff so as Doom fans we really are spoiled.

More maps from Romero would be excellent, although I'm still interested to see if his aborted kickstarter FPS ever re-emerges as well.

On Game website there's a Doom Slayer Collection containing Doom 2016, Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 for about £30, thought it was a decent price though Doom 1,2 and 3 are on a digital code.

The recent Switch/PS4/XBO releases have received an update which adds a whole bunch of stuff including 60FPS support and the inclusion of level packs for SiGiL, TNT Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment - plus the promise of more to come! :toot:

Doom, Doom II updates out now (version 1.0.4)

It's so stupid that 60fps wasn't in there to begin with. strawberry floating disgrace.

Enjoy the additional level packs though! Sigil was good, but tricky fun.

I have exactly £3.99 in my Switch wallet so now might be the time to get this downloaded.

Yeah I had a lot of fun with Sigil on release, definitely had some tricky moments toward the end.

Apparently Romero has made some updates since it was first launched so I'm looking forward to giving it another run through!

Game rendering resolution on Nintendo Switch version now displays at 640×400 to support 60 FPS and improved battery life.

Oh what I'd do for a version with the original PlayStation lighting and soundtrack

I did chuckle a bit when I read that! I'm hoping this is only in handheld mode!

The update is so damn good  Performance+quality of life+content improvements are to die for. It's bliss as portable Doom now.

The resolution drop is noticeable on Switch but it's a fair trade off for my money, though an option for 35fps + higher res may be nice for those who'd prefer it.

Would love them to keep on building on it like this - there are loads of cool source port features that it would be nice to see make their way into these official console versions - free look, advanced lighting, transparency effects etc.

What the utter strawberry float.

Why can't they get these ports right? I get they've fixed some issues but this is bad.

I mean it's not quite Ubisoft Tetris levels of bad, but it's not good.
