To add to the question list, can you change difficulty levels at any time? Recommended difficulty level for some one who played through the 2016 game on the default difficulty and found it challenging (but not impossibly so)? I gather this one is harder and i am no FPS god.

Yes I think you can change difficulty anytime.

I think it's under the settings. Campaign. Somewhere in there section.

One thing I'd say is that the game is at its best when you are at the limit of your ability, when you are having to push your hardest to stay one step ahead of the demon horde and genuinely feel like you are scrapping for your life against overwhelming odds and somehow coming through it.

Basically don't make it too easy or the joy of the thing will be somewhat diminished!

Thanks for the tips guys. Knowing I can drop the difficulty level will probably mean I am prepared to persevere for longer knowing I have that “option” in the “back pocket”.

This one is also definitely more difficult than the previous entry, your health will vanish pretty damn quick even from relatively minor attacks.

First level done and I love it. Fast, frenetic and the music is perfect.

Once you get to grips with the core mechanisms of the game it is an absolute joy to tear around the arenas, it's definitely one of those games where you really do get "in the zone"

I pretty much forgot about grenades in the first one but I've quickly learned that they're an essential tool in this along with the flamethrower and blood punch. Feels like there's an emergency button for every perilous situation.

The Cacodemon weakness is so satisfying

Finished the second level before work. Loved the look of it but hoping for more levels set on earth as well.

I finished the main campaign not long ago and overall enjoyed it, though I do think the gameplay took a bit of a step back from the previous game with just how quickly your health degrades even on lower difficulties and the enemy AI being a bit too swarmy, along with some of the bosses being just insane difficulty spikes (The Khan Maykry in particular was a proper pisstake, and doing the final boss twice was just not great. If it hadn't been for the game giving you the option of Super Armour after you die multiple times at the same point I never would've gotten through those).

Not sure if I'll dip for the DLC seeing as I got the base game on Gamepass, will depend how much it costs to buy standalone (I assume you can just buy the DLC for a Gamepass base game?)

You can. I did this with The Witcher 3.

Got a copy of this. Will probably start it this week. Been looking forward to it as I love 2016 (and I've been on a classic Doom kick recently).

Just done Exultia.

Don't think this is a patch on the 2016 one.

Some of the jumping sections :fp:

I get you have to keep moving (I completed the 2016 one on one of the higher difficulty settings) but here the layout of a lot of areas makes it hard to keep moving - lava, getting trapped in corners, and the sludge gooseberry fool which slow you down can strawberry float right off.

The sludge is the worst part of the game by far and does indeed strawberry float off.

I never had a problem with keeping moving. Most big fight arenas are designed with movement in mind rather than limitations to it.

I've seen so many say this isn't as good as the first one. I'm really interested to see if that's correct. It does sound like they've made it more complicated than what it should be. 2016 was almost beautiful in its simplicity. Shoot monsters in the face. Glory kill. Rinse repeat until it is done.

When is this due to come to game pass for PC?

Going to stream this at about 3pm and give my first thoughts on the game.

It's still incredibly simple overall. For me I think the changes they made to the main gameplay loop were all positive.

There are a few more things to juggle in terms of deploying different types of attack in order to recharge health/ammo/armour etc. but it adds to the experience in a tangible way. I can't think of any encounter in 2016 that is as intense and satisfying as what this can throw at you when firing on all cylinders.
