1080p, fov 90. Most stuff on high, one or two on ultra, AA on, that gives me about 100fps. But now you mention it, I'm going to see if I can push it a bit harder in the nvidia control panel. I also haven't installed the game ready drivers.

With that cpu and gpu I reckon you should easily be able to play this game with everything on ultra and the very least. The game uses lots of VRAM on the max ultra/nightmare settings though. Almost full 8gb.

Thanks for the advice zxe. Unfortunately geforce experience doesn't have the auto-optimise stuff for Doom Eternal yet, so we're going manual tweaking. I'll take your advice and have a skim of this article as well:

Ok, so the top tip in the article worked great.

Choose the "Nightmare" graphics pre-set, then turn down Shadow textures to High. That's it!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Nice, I'll take a look at that tonight. I'm on a relatively ancient i5 4690k paired with an RTX 2070 Super - so really unbalanced toward the GPU in my setup.

I've got pretty much everything on Ultra and it runs at a locked 60fps with zero issues. Much like Doom 2016 and the recent Wolfenstein games I don't think it's taxing the CPU at all so as long as you have a graphics card that is good enough then you should be absolutely fine.

Watching PC supremacists tinker their shadow settings while I try and find 'Invert Look' in the control settings.

People invert look on a mouse?

Is the ammo a bit more constrained in this game than the previous? I'm finding myself needing the chainsaw a lot more to get ammo mid-fight. Playing on Ultra-Violence if that matters.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yea I've found ammo a much bigger restraint than I remember from before.

Same, I quite like it though - keeps things tense and I pretty much never used the chainsaw in 2016 so this is encouraging me to mix things up.

I presume there will be upgrades that expand the clip capacity of weapons at some point? The shotgun only holding 16 shells is very limiting!

Can't wait to play it more tonight.

Ha, I do try and be a bit mindful, I know some console players really don't like it when a game thread becomes a tweak guide/optimal settings discussion zone.

To the point where SomethingAwful's games forum has separate threads for console and PC releases because the console players would get so wound up.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Same, I'm kinda stuggling with this game when you get into intense arena style battles with load sof enemies and I'm only playing it on the second difficulty - so normal? Soo far i've dfound this game far more diffcult than i ever did Doom 2016. It's just so intense and like you say when your ammo runs out I panic haha.

Nice one!

Apprently if anyone is playing this on steam - disabling the steam overlay can give a few extra fps. I haven't tested this but might be worth a try.

Right-click the game in your library -> Properties -> Uncheck the Overlay box.

Also you can also skip the game intros by setting +com_skipIntroVideo 1 in your steam game lauch options.

Are you making use of the chainsaw? I didn't really use it in 2016 as ammo seemed relatively abundant but in this it's essential.

The low level zombie enemies that seem to be everywhere are essentially walking ammo crates that only need 1 charge of the chainsaw to take down. Chain them down, wreak some more carnage and by the time you are low again the chainsaw should be back in action for another go!

The previous game was quite melee orientated - And it worked well because of it. Is this more of that?

Melee is still a big part yep, they've expanded it in some cool ways.

2 missions down, this is fantastic!

Loving that some of the music has references/cues from classic Doom hidden in there as well, so neat.

This is so damn good.

Also not sure anything in a game this year will be better than the Doom Slayers bookshelf in this!

How good was that opening cinematic :datass:

Loving this, while Doom 2016 is one of my favourite games ever I didn't get it initially as I think I tried to play it like CoD rather than flying round the level picking up power ups, getting glory kills and chainsawing. I've hit the ground running in this and everything feels fantastic, I think the ammo restrictions improve the rythem of the game, getting in the cycle of shoot, glory kill, chainsaw. I was worried that the addition of more story might lose something that made the original so good but if anything the extra lives and weak points make it more 'video gamey' than its predecessor.
