That's a whoopsydoodle!

I think they sold quite a few day 1 though from what I hear and I'm sure the idea of everyone looking for things to do at home may see games sales go up.

2 missions down, this is fantastic!

Loving that some of the music has references/cues from classic Doom hidden in there as well, so neat.

Mick Gordon is incredible at calling back to previous games while putting his own style into a soundtrack. His work on Killer Instinct is extraordinary. Can't wait to hear what he's done with this.

Yeah he's produced another really fine collection of tracks on this. Doom 2016 had some great little callbacks to the originals in the soundtrack but this does an even better job of it IMO.

Ha, I do try and be a bit mindful, I know some console players really don't like it when a game thread becomes a tweak guide/optimal settings discussion zone.

To the point where SomethingAwful's games forum has separate threads for console and PC releases because the console players would get so wound up.

Don't worry, I wasn't having a dig.

My optimal settings are when the girlfriend goes out with her friends and leaves me to it. AMIRITE MEN?

This.

Also, falling to your death has now been replaced with taking some damage and respawning. It was frustrating exploring nooks and crannies in the first game only to inevitably fall somewhere and have to wait for the game to reload.

2 small touches but a big improvement for me on 2016 so far

Yep a great improvement, also I've found load times in general are much better than 2016 - it never feels like you're out of the mayhem for long!

Well, I thought I’d play DOOM 2016 again and I know I’m literally the only person who hates the music so I set up my own one on Spotify (lots of progidy, chemi bros and indeed Photek) and it worked. Rather enjoying myself in it. Load times from death to game is only about 6-8 seconds? Not too bad, initial game load is long tho.

Yeah I think that's what I'm remembering, the initial load on 2016 seemed to take forever!

Maybe your computer is just better now. ;)

Though I agree, the load times are better. I played through the last few levels of Doom 2016 before the launch on Thursday evening and the new one definitely loads faster.

Jenny, have you added

Code: Select all

+com_skipIntroVideo 1
to your launch shortcut / steam command line options? It skips the intros and you can see just how fast it does load.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

If anyone on PC didn't get pre-order and get the DLC code then CD Keys have it for £0.79.

https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/doom-eternal-dlc-emea

That includes Doom 64 so it's a bargain just for that.

Did Doom 64 get a release on the Bone?

Forcing me to sign up for a Bethesda account before playing this is a pretty dick move. Guessing they didn't learn their lesson from the doom rereleases. banana splits.

I see the game has old school cheats (at least in the PC version) which is a nice touch :D .
I think more games should have them built in as a way to just have a bit more fun and you don't have to use them if that's not your cup of tea so I find it odd when people object to them.

I'm playing on One X and I think it looks great so I imagine it can get really impressive on a decent gaming PC.

I don't get the fuss over the music either. Just sounds like a bunch of generic industrial metal that people cream themselves over.

Game has two great tracks (BFG Division and Rip and Tear), don't really like the rest.

The cheats seem to be unlocked through play in the levels. You get little floppy disks with labels like "Infinite Lives"

You can pull down the developer console in game to enter commands, but I don't know any of them, or if there are cheat commands.

I think I may be done with this as it's more frustrating than fun.
The severe lack of ammo is a pain in the arse and the platform sections can strawberry float right off. I end up getting killed more from just trying to conserve ammo than almost anything else and why does the chainsaw use so much fuel?
I'm only playing on normal and the game just feels punishingly hard.
I wasn't expecting a game with a name like Doom to be easy but I can see many people like me getting frustrated and just saying sod this.
