Really looking forward to this. Looks incredible.

I know it won't look that good on my PS4 but hopefully it won't be too far off what was shown. I think it's more important on consoles to aim for 1080/60 fps rather than the graphics anyway. I don't if it was me in my sleepy state last night but did anyone else think it looked like you could control the chainsaws blade when cutting through enemies? Here is Subzero.....now plain zero!!

Can't wait to be playing this in co-op with my buddies!

I was talking about Doom to a coupe of guys at my work, both around my age (29), neither of them had ever played it :|

It looks like a proper sequel to the first two games. That's not to say that Doom 3 isn't good but it was a completely different kind of FPS to the originals.

Was the footage of the solo mode yesterday actual gameplay. It looked ludicrously good.

I mean obviously it wont look like that on the consoles but even for a high end PC that looked pretty insane to me. Regardless from something I've never really been interested in, Doom just leaped up my want list 8-)

Fortunately Doom 3 Classic addressed that somewhat, though i could never quite get it to replicate the feel of the original movement.

In terms of aesthetics at least, you can see a clear line drawn from this to Doom 3, though this looks like it's going to be obviously more visceral and actiony than what Doom 3 attempted.

Really not getting the fuss over this. It doesn't look scary at all because you basically get flooded by enemies every 30 seconds. The player looks too quick and powerful, the weapons look underwhelming but, mostly, my concerns stem from the fact that it just doesn't seem to have anything special about it. It's about the bare minimum of what you'd expect of a modern-day Doom.

This is exactly what I mean. I absolutely loved Doom and Doom 2 but gaming has moved on.

Those hulking things which kind of look like Xenomorphs on PEDs, those are my favourites. Along with the floating skull and redesigned cacodemons.

Was watching some of the MP beta, really started to get excited about this one. Looks like they are very much using the old Doom template, secrets and backtracking. As for the MP, again very old skool, twitch, just something different that is on the market right now.

I really hope that is the case, Floex. Considering that Doom was centred around blasting action, it was surprising that a degree of puzzling was also an intricate aspect of the game. My fear is that Doom is a gaming legend but - even though it still plays terrifically well today - it was of its time. It'll be a tough job to bring it up to date but still retain that Doom feeling. I'm thrilled about the prospect that we'll be able to see the results soon, though!

Have you actually seen the multiplayer? Its nothing like old school. Its strawberry floating shite. Twitch doesnt even begin to enter the equation.

I haven't see the multiplayer mode, Falsey. By the "twitch" reference, do you mean it's too "instant reaction" rather than having any tactical aspect?

'Twitch' is about both you and enemies moving erratically and quickly, so that shots are difficult to make successfully (i.e. you need to 'twitch' the cursor onto them). I think what Falsey's saying (and I'd agree) is that this looks far too 'slow' for something claiming to be an old-school FPS.

Ah, I see - cheers, Karl.

I've only ever played Doom in single player mode so I'm unfamiliar with how the multiplayer mode played; albeit I know that it was pretty great by general assessment. I'd made the assumption that Doom would be a little slower than modern shooters (CoD and the like)... I guess this goes back to my suggestion that it'll be tough to update the game but also retain that original feel.

Old Doom was very fast. Most old shooter multiplayer was very fast. This is not fast. Everything is slow and heavy.
