Not far, I've only just beaten the Slayer of the Sands where you first meet him, so all I've experienced so far is his creepy strawberry floater mode

So is the Casino purely just random? All I can seem to really find in online recommendations is "Just pick a single slot machine and keep playing on that one"

the whole thing is a joke though - really disliked it.

Playing through this at the moment and about 15 hours in. Just had the 2nd best RPG fighting tournament since TTYD. Starting to get into it more and more. Was kind of hoping the battle system might evolve into something more (like XC2) but it looks like it's not going to.

Yeah I think the battle system is one of my two biggest complaints about the game really. It never really changes and is still VERY old school.

My other complaint is with the storytelling. The story itself is good, but the way it's delivered isn't great. Part of the problem is the silent protagonist means the main character never really gets involved, but unlike a game like say, Persona, your other main characters don't get hugely involved either. Most of the story telling is coming from random NPCs that never show up again.

Having now reached Part 2 and just gotten Sylvando back I stand by my opinion that he's super annoying and the worst character of the main cast by far.

He's just so annoyingly over the top and stereotypical.
He's basically the concept of stranger danger visually personified.

Playing through the Tockington stuff I can't grasp how anybody could stand to play the entire main game like this.

Combat is just so frustratingly slow.

It worked fine back when RPGs were much shorter 5-10 hour affairs but in the days of 60-80+ hour games... :dread:

You know you can change the combat speed in the menu within Tockington?

I think it was content from the 3ds version that made it's way into the switch version.

Played an hour so far and just leaving the starter town. Yet to make a single decision. Combat seems to just be picking attack and it doesn't matter where you stand? Hope this picks up into something more substantial.

Nah that's about all the combat ever really amounts to. It's a very old school JRPG battle system. Positioning means nothing at any point in the game, it's purely a cosmetic thing.

Bought this in the steam sale but refunded it after realising I wouldn't be able to play it due to the mouse being used to control the camera.

Finally made a start on this tonight, only played the first hour (climbing the tor) and saved it now I’m about to leave the village and head for the capital. Very nice looking game, playing on the Switch OLED and it looks great on the screen. Battle system seems very much standard turn based fare but it’s fine so far, hoping it gets better as you expand moves/spells and add to your party.

About 10 hours into this at the moment, just reached Gallopolis, I’m enjoying my time with it but I’ve not had much time recently to really dedicate time to it in big chunks.

Battles seem fine so far but haven’t really thrown out much of a challenge as yet, Especially since I got 4 team members, perhaps I’m battling too much and a bit over levelled? I’m level 15 at the moment.

It gets tough.

Little FYI when the credits roll that’s not the end of the game, there’s another 60 hours left.
