I’m playing this on PS4 at minute. I’ve just recruited the 3rd and 4th party members and I’m really enjoying it thus far despite the game feeling a little easy.

The last dungeon I played (well the boss anyway) was the first time the game has felt remotely challenging. Reminds me a little of Ni No Kuni which also takes ages before the game starts fighting back.

I’m not sure I like how the game holds your hand right at the start however by preventing you stumbling into areas you aren’t prepared for.

Every DQ game I’ve played (I, II, IV, VII and VIII) lets you explore pretty freely and if you end up in over your head so be it and I like that approach.

DQI is so simple as there are no vehicles or owt to worry about you can head virtually to the end game area of the map from the get go if you so choose although NPCs do warn you about crossing bridges.

the overworld tends to be easy, especially if you avoid encounters. but then some of the bosses can absolutely destroy you if youre underlevelled

There's a pretty big list of stuff https://gematsu.com/2019/06/dragon-ques ... e-detailed

cheers Maf.

seems like a pretty literal translation so i hope someone will translate this so it makes a bit more sense
like the look of all these - addressing lots of quality of life stuff that i wish was patched in for the pc version :(

Double dipping definitely seems to have more of a reason that, just because 'I want it again.'

Thanks for the info :D

I don't like how enemies just reappear, especially in cramped areas like dungeons :x Yeah they're easy to kill, but it's time I'd rather spend exploring than waiting for the fight to start and end.

If you're at a high enough level enemies stop being aggressive, they just stand there and you have to engage them in battle manually, higher still and enemies run away from you on sight.

Does it have a general Ni No Kuni feel to it? Graphically it seems to have a similar tone, and, despite the somewhat annoying sprite growth mechanics, i really enjoyed that game as a whole. Kinda fantastical and wholesome. Is this in a similar vein?

There are similarities I guess what with the Anime stylings and simple gameplay but I was referring more specifically to the difficulty. The opening sections of Ni No Kuni are really easy and the same seems to be true here certainly when compared to past game in the series VII for example can be pretty brutal.

i found it no problem to dodge around most enemies - in fact i ended up under-leveled because i avoided too many fights - sounds like you need to get better at dodging!

I’m up to the second part of the game now and almost everything runs away from me, even the bigger stuff like those giant coral monsters. Even the really big stuff just stands and stares without actually attacking. I've been pretty overpowered for most of the game so far. I tend to over level nowadays as in a few RPGs in the past (notably Shadow Hearts and Baten Kaitos) I reached the very end of the game only to realise I was grossly under levelled and would have to start again.

I've spent quite a bit of time forging and reworking gear too so that definitely helps. Particularly once I hit the point where Perfectionist Pearls could be purchased.

I have the Draconian stronger enemies turned on, and even the ones that run away from me can still kick seven shades out of me if they get a few good turns in! :slol:

Forging has been a life saver, particularly with the card accessories that regen HP/MP each turn. The +3 cards give 10HP/3MP a turn, which basically equates to a free spell in the early game.

I think the different difficulty tweaks are a good idea but I just left them alone.

I'm more in to this now. And partly for the strangest reason: mob designs! Some are so strange and cute  Pigs in the witches hats

Welp, I reached the boss in the Other Side. Hoo boy, and I thought the squid was bad. Five attacks per turn, and a charmed status infliction. I think I must have got two hits in before it wiped me out.

I spent about three hours in the casino to get the special weapons, so now I'm off to grind a few levels on the Slime island. :dread:

Although overall this game reminds me a lot of Dragon Quest III which I am also playing at the moment the second act has a definite Final Fantasy VI vibe to it.

check the forge for items that reduce/defend against status ailments. some very useful stuff you can craft and put on for a particular fight.

Did just that. Forged a bunch of charm-resist necklaces, smashed out the casino until I could afford the greatsword and lance, and then stormed the boss in like three minutes*.

*By the skin of my teeth with just Jade and Serena left alive, mind you. :shifty:
