Is there any system for winning big at the casino? There was a way of manipulating the roulette in VIII to almost guarantee big winnings in a relatively short amount of time.

Yeah, I tried that. The guide I read recommended starting with about 200 tokens, playing the low stakes slots until you hit around 4000, then the mid stakes slots. It indicated that before long you'd be up to your ears in tokens but after an hour or so I barely scraped 20,000 and spent a big chunk of time barely breaking even.

Liberal use of the autosave on entry. If you've made too much of a loss, just quit and reload.

I got about 20,000 from the regular 10-coin slots, but it was slow going. After that I kept pouring money into 10-coin poker, betting the max (100) every time. Basically just win a hand, and gamble double-or-nothing on the 'Play Your Cards Right' bit for as long as you think you can get away with.

It may be because the fortune teller said it was my lucky day for poker, but the vast majority of the time, of the four cards to pick from, two were higher than the drawn card, so it was a usually a 50/50 shot.

I lost a lot of hands over time, but I pushed my luck just far enough to win a 64,000 streak. Then I got a Royal Jelly Flush for 50,000 and pushed it even further, gambling on it to win 100,000! :toot:

I read another strategy last night that recommended avoiding the poker and 3 reel slots entirely instead advising you should stick with the 5 reel slots.

In about half an hour on the mid stakes machines my tokens were consistently increasing and doubled from about 20,000 to about 40,000. I think I’ll have another bash tonight after work, perhaps moving on to the high stakes machines.

This is really growing on me now. Actually, I'm fully into it as of this morning, when Jade leaped after the Luminary. Both the touch of realism (her propelling herself) and tenderness got me good and proper.

Luminary is a naff name.

Just forged a new Sword of Light and only have a few side quests left to clear. I feel I may be drawing near the end of the second part of the game but a couple of things suggest that I may not be as close as I think.

You're gonna hate me for this...

Just arrived at the second casino. Played about 45 minutes of Slime Quest, and won about 40,000 coins. Pretty decent, I guess.

Popped over to the regular 100 coin slots. Five turns in- Metal Mode. Next spin- Jackpot. Next spin- Another jackpot. Next spin- Token Trove.

I made 640,767 off four spins! :slol:

EDIT- THE NEXT SPIN WAS ANOTHER JACKPOT

EDIT AGAIN- THE NEXT WAS ANOTHER JACKPOT. FOUR JACKPOTS

I remember the casino in DQVII being ridiculously rigged. When you won at poker you could go double or nothing with a game of Play Your Cards Right. You’d think you could beat it by using save states after the card was drawn but before you’d made your guess then reloading if you were wrong but no, it wasn’t actually random. If the game had decided you were gonna lose you’d lose, like if you chose higher it would always be lower and vice versa. Meaning the card could change after it was drawn, cheating bastards!

I was expecting that to pan out like a similar bit in Grandia but this was a lot better.

Went to the school  Zombie student at back of class.

Beat Dora :toot: The state of that pun :simper:

I think I'm over levelled but, after the tentacular fight, I'd rather that than have to go grinding. (Yeah, I obviously had to have ground levels, but doing it accidentally doesn't feel half as much of a drag as doing so because of a boss wiping you over and over.)

My biggest gripe is to do with dialogue. Like with the party there's almost no connection between the members and what is there, like the banter between Veronica and Erik, is 3rd rate stuff. It's really strange because the game does have moments of genuine heart and humour, just not amongst the protagonists :? Not so far anyway. (edit: other than the Luminary/Rab/Jade bit, that was good.)

2nd half of game spoiler: Hendrik is my new favourite  Some of his reactions, like when the Hero meets up with Sylv again, are just hi-larious.

I think this might be my Christmas period game this year, i’ve got it pre-ordered on Switch but with Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, Link’s Awakening and Luigi’s Mansion 3 also coming out within the next 2 months it will have to wait sadly.

News yesterday that a demo will be coming to Switch before launch, progress in the demo carries over to the main game.

Things which were total BS during latest play session: Monster casino boss fight with the monster, and the sea monster can get f***ed as well.

I think I found what remains of Nautica :(
