This looks awesome, only ever played VIII on PS2 I think. Hopefully the West gets it.

Never played a proper entry in the Dragon Quest series, although I loved the look of VIII on PS2. Closest I came was Dragon Warrior Monsters on the Game Boy Colour which I loved back in the day. Definitely interested in this, particularly like the way the use of the second screen on the 3DS version!

Jump Festa 2017 DQ XI Stage Event

Square Enix revealed the opening movie, new details, and new gameplay footage of Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time during a Jump Festa 2017 stage event today. First and foremost, the game will launch for PlayStation 4 and 3DS in 2017. There was no mention of the Switch version, nor is it listed on the newly launched teaser website here. Apparently this is incorrect. The Switch version *was* mentioned in passing and will be revealed at a later date.

The stage event featured game scenario writer and designer Yuuji Horii, producer Yosuke Saito, and director Takeshi Uchikawa.

First, we have official descriptions of the protagonist and the first party member:

Protagonist

Image

A young man who lives in the calm village of Ishi. He was brought up soundly by the people of the warm village. The curtain opens on his adventure on the day he turns 16.

Camus

“I believe in it—the miracle of the hero.”

A reliable partner. He is a blue-haired thief that the protagonist encounters on his journey. Although there is a rude side to his behavior and speech, he possesses a strong sense of duty and a warm heart. As a partner used to the ways of the world, he supports and guides the novice protagonist.

The world of Dragon Quest XI is called “Lotozetasia,” which has a World Tree at its center. According to director Uchikawa, “It is a vast map comparable to previous Dragon Quest titles. It won’t betray your expectations.” Here’s a look:

Some miscellaneous stuff: the series’ familiar Casino and “Puff Puff” ability will return. You’ll be able to play slots, poker, and mini-games that differ based on the hardware. The 3DS version will have support for StreetPass (different from Dragon Quest IX‘s treasure maps), while charming elements are also being prepared for the PlayStation 4 version.

Praise Gematsu!

It looks gorgeous. The environments look lovely and large. I just hope it doesn't take as long as VII did to make it to the West. I'm hoping we get both versions too, at the moment I'd genuinely consider picking both up. The 3DS one more as a curio.

Isnt there also a Switch version? I doubt we will see this before 2018 so I can see myself picking this up on Switch.

What's the battle system in this going to be like? I'm hoping for a traditional turn based RPG, FFXV has been great but I long for something turn based.

The 3DS is probably going to be dead by the time it's out here in the west.

Still have to get through VII and VIII on the 3DS but I am very much looking forward to this. I dont mind a bit of a wait for the Switch version as I plan on picking one up around Xmas so having this as my Xmas game would be most good indeed.

Some of this is from the footage SoK posted earlier (or at least the same area), but of a higher quality, so thought it worth posting. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

Defeating the enemy and using it's armour is very cool.

Games been officially announced for the west. No details of interest other than a vague "2018 with more info coming later in 2017" release date. No mention of what platforms.

This is my most wanted game. I really hope the Switch version makes it out in English. I'd happily accept a visual downgrade to get that experience.

Japanese developers are getting some great results from Unreal Engine 4. Dragon Quest 11 follows suit! It's available now in Japan and coming to the West next year. Thankfully John understands Japanese, so he can give you this early preview!

SE are making the originals available in Japan on 3DS and PS. I think you get the original game for doing something in XI, but 2 and 3 will also be launching some time in August. Hopefully they do a similar promotion when XI launches over here.
