absolutely most accessible DQ ever.
i'd even say its one of the most accessible JRPGs ive ever seen. theres very little thats hidden or not explained and if you follow the main quest youre gently levelled appropriately.

Picked up an amazing talent which will sometimes allow me to cast a spell twice without costing extra! And I revealed Omniheal (full heal for the whole team! :o  :o :toot:) on the Hero Gonna respec him later tonight :toot:

Yes! As a fellow DQ verge I cannot recommend this enough! I hate to say this, but... it's slow to start but keep at it and it *will* probably hook you.
I was writing it off even as I played it (the naff dialogue doesn't help) but it will strike a chord here and there, and there are genuine moments of drama. It's really very good. If you wait a while I'm sure it'll be on sale again. (I think I picked it up for about £20 on PSN.)

faek edit: it's going for £19.95 on Amazon marketplace, via The Game Collection.

IAmTheSaladMan wrote:Is this your first DQ? Bosses (and even some regular enemies) attacking multiple times per turn has always been a thing in this series.

Sorry, I was just pretend annoyed :) I mean, I was annoyed for real, but I'd obviously encountered cheating bast bosses/mobs before now in the game.

If you don't like the bosses attacking twice schtick don't play DQVII... there's a boss who puts your party to sleep and poisons them on his opening turn. By the time they start waking up and you heal everybody before you can get a hit in he renews the status ailments. Absolute bastard of a boss that made me rage quit around 80 hours in.

 Any idea what its name is? I wouldn't mind seeing the fight on YouTube.

Not sure... Botok I think but he goes by Gasputin in some versions.

I was likely just doing it wrong to be honest but after failing so many times then going from 60hrs to 80hrs just mastering character classes only to still lose I’d just had enough.

Ugh. I'm glad I'm not playing on a unnecessarily difficult mode.

When you finally throw the towel in and want to quit playing the game: bump the difficulty to normal or whatever and continue with the story as there's 2 huge things just after the fight. < spoilered just in case you don't want a non-spoilery hint as to why you should carry on.

Actual spoiler: :msgreen: Holy gooseberry fool a wind wish!

I’d have said a Lunar Whale like in FFIV but yeah!

Also if I don’t start playing this again soon you are gonna overtake me... then I’ll be the one watching out for spoilers.

Return to Hotto quest is up there with Michelle & Kai.

It's bonkers how the writing in this varies so wildly. Thankfully, at its worst, it's only cheesy, but at its best it hits you right in the feels, good and proper.

Favourite minor detail about return to Hotto quest: how the boy, initially, keeps correcting himself to speak like an adult..

Just reached the Fortress of Fear and still feel overpowered. I saw the boss at the entrance and thought “strawberry float me, he’s a big banana split” then proceeded to throw a Sap spell his way and wrecked him in about 5 or 6 turns.

EDIT: Just passed the 100 hour mark. It’s kinda flown over, it really does not feel like like I’ve been playing this for that long.

Going out on a limb here and it might be the beer talking but I think JRPGs may have peaked. I loved FFXV but it wasn’t without it’s flaws, this is perfection.

Just beat Indignus. Barely. It helped that all team members were pepped up at start and so I did the invincibility pep power, but it was one of those fights where you win despite being resigned to defeat. (I was down to final 2 characters )

Just made it to the credits but I believe there’s more to it than this.

EDIT: The difficulty is noticeably picking up now. I ventured back to one of the towns to pick up a side quest and turned out there was a new story to follow there too. I made it through the boss fight by the skin of my teeth. He didn’t look much but was a bloody dangerous foe.

Gloomnivore? Kinda makes sense here since you travel back to a time before you’ve defeated him.

Which boss was it? I was 15+ cans down when I reached part 3 and don’t remember a lot of it.

I hate to say it but I’m actually starting to get a little bored of this now. Part 3 is a little, well... lazy quite frankly. I mean part 2 was mostly new stuff in old places which I was cool with but then part 3 is largely the same perhaps even more so since you have to literally redo certain events because of time travel.
