Do any shops sell these? Or am I going to have to brave ebay?

Ebay my friend.

Would using a VGA box/cable be much better than Scart when using an HDTV? I don't have an HDTV but if I ever do have to buy one then what other cables would be needed?

Yes

VGA is really crisp when using Dreamcast on a HDTV/monitor.

For instance, you can REALLY tell what's 3D on SoulCalibur and where the 2D (painted backgrounds) starts.

Scarts isn't bad though, very tidy image.

I want that official vga box, they are so rare to get hold of these days and even back then because they were made in such small quantities. I am not paying upward of £40, which it will definately go for anyway.

As far as cables go, VGA is the way for HDTVs because it is just so clear, crisp and consistent. RGB is the best solution for a CRT television, but even if you have a compatible monitor get the VGA cable, it really makes the games look so sharp and nearly HD-like!

You look at the online and the motion sensing of Samba and realise just how ahead of is time the Dreamcast really was.

Just depends on the make, some are big, others are the size of the AV adaptors.

I hope my Dreamcast still works :? I've had it in my cupboard for ages and before that my brother put it in the local scout hall, where the wee bastards didn't know how to respect other peoples property :x banana splits.

Its sad as the years have gone by the Dreamcast is left packed away for longer and longer. I guess its soon to be a distant memory of golden age of gaming. I do hope Sega hurry up and rerelease their whole Dreamcast back catalogue on PSN/ XBLM. I cannot believe it is almost 10 years ago I bought the console along with Sonic Adventure and a VMU and played it on my 14 inch TV through an RF connection!

The skyscraper stage was stunning, first level of any game I'd played on Dreamcast, stunning demopoddage!

I loved that windy one, I was obsessed with it. I never completed the game, and was thinking of getting the Gamecube versions of 1 and 2 to play them on the wii to finally see the end. I do not have SA2 anymore as I sold it a long time ago, but should be able to pick it up for £10 or so.

SA2 was in some ways better than the forst and in some ways worse. The Knuckles and, erm. bat lady levels were horrible. The Sonic and Shadow stages were awesome.

I still think the first was the best though. And easily the best 3d Sonic game. There were flaws (like Big the Cat) but there always were in Sonic games. Sega were always erratic, they aren't Nintendo, but when they were good all the niggles were worth it.

Yeah, it was more of a 'game' than the first one, but I still preferred the original because of its freshness. I was totally amazed the first time I got the console and popped in this game. That first level is such a great advert for the console, its so fresh, fast and exciting. I never completed the game or the sequel, I must get round to doing it one day.

Yeah, time has gone so quick. The funny thing is that the console would not look majorly out of place even now using a vga cable. Its a shame we cannot go online on it for games!

Indeed, Wii doesn't even have a digital connector like VGA or HDMI.

Always used to use VGA with my Dreamcast, very crisp and all games ran at 60Hz default. Even Virtua Fighter 3 and Sega Rally 2 were at 60Hz, and the games used to just skip the select screen.
