Which is the problem with Dreams as a whole. It takes an a lot of work and dedication and someone quite talented with the game’s mechanics to ultimately make something not very good.

I'd disagree with this, there are plenty of great little levels in Dreams that are fun to play, in my opinion.

It’s incredible what people have done with the tools in this, I really hope it does well. I don’t have the time or skills to sit and create something but I might pick it up to play what other people create.

Wasn't that bothered about the game when it was orginally revealed but dam some of the things people have made in this game is incredibly impressive and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Guy called Detricklez makes Cyberpunk 2077-inspired character and world. Best comment on Reddit "Geez, that looks amazing. All I can do in there is a pink blob."

Covered on PC game-mod website DSO gaming because it says the game is 'most probably coming to PC.

I’ve been working my way through the ‘Impy’ nominations. Only played a couple so far and trying to keep an open mind. It’s impressive what people have been able to make but I’d be very hesitant to call them good games. The quality and polish is so far below even indie or mobile standards, that what fun there is in the gameplay quickly wears thin due to the clumsyness of it all. I want to play others before saying much more because I really don’t want to just kick this game and the inspiration behind it.

That's pretty much my driving thought about Dreams, too.

I haven't played anything from the game/utility so it feels a bit rum for me to badmouth it. But... it just feels like it's gonna take an absolute ton of time and learning to create something worthwhile. It has bags of potential and, as a reasonably creative kinda person, I should be lapping it up. Reading through Eurogamer's preview of the campaign mode, you just get the thought that if that's all they could make in five years then imagine how weak a newcomer's productions are gonna turn out.

Maybe a less ambitious utility would work better; something with fewer tools and capabilities but that can enable cool things to be made within those tighter constructs. I'm all for ambition and vision but, with Dreams, it feels like the result could be far too open and intimidating.

I'm pissed at myself for thinking this way about something that potentially enables such creativity and I hope that my take is wrong.

I’m so bored of MMs wanky intro sequences where I have to listen to someone talking to me like I’m five for 10 minutes until it feels I’m ready to do what I want.

My God you guys are negative. ( ;) )

Positive vibes!
Creation tools in this are amazing. The amount of thought and care put into just the sculpting tools (with Moves at least) and especially the gestural shortcuts is mindboggling.

Art's Dream is really good. An exemplary showcase of the possibilities of the game (especially when it comes to visuals and sounds). The actual gameplay is mostly just competent, and the story isn't super engaging, but it's still a fantastic experience.

And as for the user made stuff... yeah, the gameplay on offer for the vast majority of content is mediocre at best (there are some standout examples however), but... I don't know, it's like what were you expecting from a toolset like this?
Okay, that's kind of a gooseberry fool way to look at it, but for me the real pull of the game comes from the variety and amount of content on offer and the incredibly nice and helpful community surrounding the game (so far at least).
Not all of the stuff is all that fun to play, but what is fun is seeing what what crazy gooseberry fool the community comes up with. And sometimes there's something that actually controls decently and is fun to play, but that's just a nice little bonus.

Heck, for me even just the visually artistic stuff is worth the price of admission. I mean, look at some of this stuff:

Hey, OSC, I like your response! There is more to this than maybe I realised and appreciated. Thanks for sharing that info... I'll put time into finding out a bit more about it :-) .

I played a bit of Art’s Dream and just found it kind of tedious, there’s creative merit there, but as a game it’s just not very fun which is ultimately what I’m after and why I’m being turned off this.

I think you’re bang on about the more sculpty art side of things (though to me it’s absolutely not worth paying for, if you’re not making it yourself), this is definitely where we’re going to see the best stuff in dreams. Some really cool examples you’ve shown or already that Minas Tirith one is nuts. Just to me that’s like someone showing me an awesome thing they drew or made in real life. I appreciate the skill and everything and I get a kick out of it but I’m not going to pay to look at a gallery of it.

Move controllers are still stupid expensive and was hoping they'd be cheaper around the time this came out. Gonna have to hold off for now. Never fails to amaze me what folks are able to make on here tho. Looking forward to seeing this community keep growing like LBP did.

I’m really tempted by this, especially as you don’t require ps+ for any of it (which was a big surprise for me). I’m not really interested in the creative side as in just not good at that sort of thing, but some of the stuff people are putting out looks really impressive. Will probably check in on progress in a month or two.
I also have the move controllers (thanks psvr), but again, I’m not planning on creating.

The Move controllers are by no means mandatory. Only if you're very interested in sculpting might they possibly be considered a must-have. For everything else the Dualshock is by far the better option.

Yeah, my main motivator is to Sculpt and would much rather prefer a more natural feeling to it. Looks so awkward using the controller. Also mine tends to get pretty jittery with motion, not sure if that will effect it in game.

The Mm Streams that use dual Moves make it seem easy tho. Like with anything it's a learning curve. Gonna sit on this for a while lol. Nioh 2 and Animal Crossing is around the corner so I'd barely be putting much time into it anyway. Hopefully they release some kind of bundles or offers in future. I can see that they're prob gauging the reception of the game first.

Those are people whose job it is to create stuff in the game to help sell it, they’ve probably clocked upwards of 1000 hours with the sculpting.

I’d try and give a look at some streams of first time players or have put a week or so in. It’ll give you a much better idea of what it’s like.

But then I’m dangerously close to ‘wah, I can’t do this, it must be crap’ territory so if it looks fun to you dive in man.

Sculpting with the Moves is way way way more natural than with the Dualshock.

Sure, it's difficult and frustrating when you're trying to get your head around what you feel should be easy and intuitive, but after only a few hours of dedicated practice it becomes almost second nature. And while a few hours may sound like a lot to some people, if the thought of sculpting with the Moves seems like a fun way to exercise your creative muscles then that's nothing compared to what you get in return.
