As an example, I wanted to take my son to see this and as a result, had to wait for the Bluray release instead. How many other people would have seen this at the cinema given the chance?

2000AD's biggest audience are adults though, the same strawberry floats who bought it in the 80's are still buying it now, I didn't start until the early 90's, and always enjoyed the progs because they were cheaper than the Marvel and DC jobs, and always felt like they weren't for kids if you know what I mean, they were as standard more violent comics I found and reading them now they have a really dark tone to some of them.

I started reading at 14 and I got a lot of my friends into it too, between the ages of 14-16. I hope that 2000AD still attracts that age upwards, otherwise Dredd's fanbase will diminish over time.

Sandra Bullock wasn't in Judge Dredd. You're thinking of Demolition Man.

Regardless, the point still stands. Wasn't Watchmen somehow a 15? And that was super violent.

3 was a 15 yeah but Watchmen was 18.

I'm thinking of the Irish rating. I remember there being a huge furore about it at the time. How on earth it didn't get an 18 is beyond me.

I can't quite remember which films they are, but there's been many a time I've put a DVD on that's a 15 BBFC and an 18 over in Ireland.

It used to be a lot worse in the 90s. From Dusk Til Dawn was famously banned until the early 2000s for blasphemy reasons

I'm going to say that if this film was a 15 instead of an 18, some of the best bits wouldn't have been nearly as good, or maybe even in there at all. Plus with the tone they went with, doing cuts afterwards to make it a lower certificate would've made it weird to watch, in a way.

Judge Minty

Judge William Minty has spent his entire adult life policing the violent streets of Mega-City One - and now he's slowing down. When a lapse of judgement almost ends his life, he knows that it's time to quit. He can choose to teach in the Academy, or he can leave the city and walk alone out into the anarchy of the Cursed Earth, taking law to the lawless.

Haven't watched it all yet but one hell of a crafted film for a fan project.

Judge Minty sounds like he primarily dispenses justice to people who don't brush their teeth.

This past weekend, Urban was a guest at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, and the topic of Dredd came up during his panel on Saturday afternoon. Urban, and noted that “conversations are happening” regarding a followup to Dredd on Amazon or Netflix.

It's happening, isn't it?!

I hope Netflix. They have a proven track record for good comic adaptation series.
And Amazon will likely be looking at a lower budget after going way overboard on good Top Gear.

I think a series would probably suit the Dredd universe even more than a couple of films. Each week could be about his regular busting of punk heads but with overarching stories that explain more of the lore and backstory to Mega City One, the Judges and all the issues of having a fascist police force ruling a population.

Drokk I'm excited

TV shows, subject to having a serious budget so the special effects aren't crap or infrequent and sufficient creative freedom to be faithful to the Comic medium is probably the better way for Dredd/Superhero shows.

If Netflix are behind it, then it's likely they'd fill the two requirements, so I'd have high hopes for Dredd Netflix. Loved the film, wish I actually got a chance to see it in cinema.

I think a series would work better than a film, I really hope it happens.
