I expected more from Rare, they must have at least one more game in development and we saw nothing from Lionhead either.

The price is a massive mistake, at the very minimum they need to drop the UK price to £399, £429 is just all wrong.

Apart from that it was all good.

They didn't even hint at other Rare stuff so I think it is time to stop hoping for me Banjo and Perfect Dark unfortunately.

Has a platform holder every quickly reduced the price of their console in reaction to the competition's price (and all before launch)? I don't know if they'll drop the price but I've got a feeling they may bundle a game with the console. Two games like Forza and Ryse for £429 wouldn't be too bad. But, Microsoft have got to sort out this DRM and used game gooseberry fool. I liked the games they showed and if they do that i'll be tempted to buy one.

One thing i'm still waiting for are the third party exclusives that show us what Microsoft get in 'return' for implementing this stuff. I was expecting to see exclusives maybe from EA (like Mirrors Edge), Ubisoft, etc. At the moment it's just looking like something Microsoft wanted to implement to the console for themselves.

Microsoft took I think £100 off the original Xbox price quite quickly. Nintendo dropped the Gamecube price before launch.

Aren't they getting exclusive content for FIFA, COD DOGS and Battlefield?

Exclusive content for FIFA's Ultimate Team mode (keep your expectations low, it'll probably be 3-for-2 card packs or something as non-notable as that), and DLC for CoD Dogz and Battlefield 4 will launch first on Xbone (and presumably 360).

That's what I mean. Map packs for CoD always launched first on Xbox, it just doesn't seem that big a deal than say if Microsoft were announcing stuff like Beyond Good and Evil, Mirrors Edge 2 and just other actual games as exclusives.

Yeah, the lack of a quid pro quo in respect of the big publishers (who presumably pushed for MS to go down the DRM route) makes it all the more baffling that MS have handed Sony a massive PR coup, squandered much of the goodwill amongst core gamers that it built up with the 360 and all for little discernible direct benefit to themselves. They would have been better off just going download only and being done with it.

Yeah, they did. I think it was £199 with Sega GT and JSRF when I bought one.

They need to take Kinect out of the box and knock £100 quid off, and reverse al their DRM nonsense. So not going to happen, basically.

True. I can't believe i'm saying this  But if Patcher's right and Microsoft paid some $50 Million for it...that doesn't exactly sound like a "Here you go in return for putting used game restrictions, etc". Dead Rising as an exclusive is a coup though. But That sounds like a deal they could've done

I suppose if pre-orders of XboxOne tank and PS4 pre-orders increase it may give MS pause for thought. I don't see them dropping Kinect as it is clearly integral to the core functions of the machine. I don't think they will move on price now.

The only room for manoeuvre seems to me the easing back of the online requirement (even once a week would be much more palatable) and the removal of the restrictions on lending, renting and selling disks.

Like I said in the other thread,

What they can do,

Slim down the Ram reservation to 1-1.5gb
Reveal if the CPU is actually the same as PS4 or not
Dial back the 24 hour check in, 2-4 weeks will do
Remove the digital copy for disc copies so discs can be sold or traded
Lower the price in the uk to £349-£399, Sterling is gaining value at the moment after being weak.
Clarify what the 2 free game thing will morph into after the Xbox One launch.

Certainly, I would expect a price cut for the Xbone by E3 2014. I can't see this being that successful when its main rival is $100/£80/100 Euro cheaper.

I can see the X1 selling well at launch, what about all the exclusive dudebro chav DLC for FIFA and COD DOGS?

They love that gooseberry fool.

Those sort of customers are also price sensitive, which is why 360 did well. I can see a fair amount moving to PS4 for less money.

I dunno, the draw of exclusivity on games such as FIFA, COD and Battlefield can't be underestimated. Still think it will do good/great numbers at launch.

Depends upon when it launches. It definitely has to launch before PS4. And it also depends upon the availability of both consoles. Will the shops have enough stock?

Anyway, I'm not writing MS off yet. They have deep enough pockets to address the 'problems' and even take a financial hit if necessary.

PS3 managed to sell units when it was priced a similar amount more than 360.

I guess it'll come down to the games in the end.

If for example Titanfall really impresses everyone and becomes a must have, I don't see the PS4 distancing itself.

I do think that they may go to £399, maybe even with a game in.

Sony cut the price of the PS4 within six months of launch. I wonder if the fact that Titanfall is coming to PC and 360 will hobble any chance of it being an Xbone killer app.
