Maybe when they finally put 2DS/3DS out to pasture they'll have more resources to focus on just the 1 machine.

I think people need to remember Nintendo have numerous Directs a year where they constantly reveal games and make announcements. E3 just isn't as important to them as people want it to be.

Saying that, their 2018 lineup, assuming nothing more gets announced, is a little lacking-Fire Emblem slipping to 2019 is very disappointing and Yoshi has dropped off a cliff. Add those two in and it would have looked a bit more rounded.

As it, not counting ports, they're looking at:

Kirby
Labo
Mario Tennis Aces
Pokemon
Smash
Super Mario Party

It's not awful and has two big hitters, but they could have done with a couple more.

Genuinely still in shock that it was so light on content.

If rumours are to be believed, their first post DK TF project hit development problems, and Starfox Grand Prix is only 2 years in and a 2019 title.

That was shite. They usually show off a few new things in the treehouse but even so that was shite.

The new Zelda models look wrong in the Smash Bros. style.

I adore Smash Bros and this looks like it'll really live up to the billing of being the ultimate Smash Bros game. Only disappointment being that Waluigi was an assist trophy rather than a new character :( If Smash Bros isn't for you though then that must have been a tedious experience.

Disappointing that there wasn't much else new though, Fire Emblem looked nice and Super Mario Party looked like it had some clever ideas too but neither are games I'm going to rush out and buy.

Shame there wasn't more on Pokemon though hopefully we'll hear more from the show floor, also surprised there was nothing on Metroid Prime 4 or Yoshi. Wasn't expecting anything particularly new but thought we'd see more on stuff that's already been announced!

I'm more disappointed that Waluigi is in the game instead of in the bin.

I agree with Tomous in terms of the line up not being too bad in general for the Switch this year. For me, it's helped by the fact that I have staggered my purchases so still have stuff like Mario Odyssey, Rabbids etc to buy so I can fill in any gaps. I don't tend to keep up to date with the latest releases anyway.

I think it's more the disappointment that they used up an E3 direct entirely on Smash. Nintendo do do these things more frequently than the other 2, so don't need to blow all the load once a year, but really, given that the focus was so much on Smash (and on really tiny, fan-seevice tweaks to an existing game), it should have been broadcast at another time and labelled appropriately as a Smash Bros direct.

As it is, perhaps a portion of the Smash fan base loved the detail and small changes, but for the rest of us, it drove us into the strawberry floating ground and we were suffering through it in the hope of something else at the end. If it had been its own Direct then you wouldn't have had that.

No news on classic console releases
No news on anything people really wanted to see

Smash was great at first but got boring real quick

Still love my Switch though  will download Fortnite tonight

This is Nintendo.

I get that they announce other stuff throughout the year and even though I'm not interested in the games, there are games coming out...but there's also a clear gap in stuff this year.

Fair enough they can't just pull a couple of big AAA titles out of the air for release this year...but what about talking about adding old Nintendo games to the eShop? What about showing some smaller Nintendo developed new games.

They must have other content.

Anyone checked to see if Fortnite is available to download early, ready for the 10pm start?

Is there a schedule for Treehouse?

Also, IMO:

Portable Fortnite + Pokemon in November + Smash for Christmas = Nintendos 20m units target

Feeling even more annoyed they've gone straight to yet more Smash Bros despite just spending a good 30+ minutes of the direct on it.

Literally the only retail game I'll be getting towards the end of the year currently is Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu, at least I get a Mew with the Poké Ball plus. Luckily there's a few games coming out in the summer that interests me. Crash Bandicoot, Octopath Traveller, Hollow Knight. Not looking like a great year so far for my Switch :(

Will fortnite sell consoles though? It's free on other platforms, so if you have, even a phone you can play it, without the near £300e expense of a new console.

Pokemon I see being a big seller, Smash I always assumed wasn't that big of a system seller either tbh.

I am happy there's a fire emblem coming, smash could have been worse but I don't really care about it, I don't give a monkeys arse about mario party so basically I could have turned off after the short fire emblem bit.
