The opening rounds of the Splatoon 2 World Championships ended last night, with Japan wiping the floor with Australia 3-0 while the matches between Europe and the US were fast-paced and always at risk of changing, but Europe managed a win on the fifth round by two points on Tower Control.

Tuesday gave the Nintendo Direct, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate taking half of the 45-minute presentation. Also shown were Super Mario Party, Daemon x Machina, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC Torna - The Golden Country, Overcooked 2, Hollow Knight, Killer Queen Black, and a new demo for Octopath Traveller. The first day of the Treehouse gave us a deep dive into Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee, Fortnite, Overcooked 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Then the finals of the Splatoon 2 World Championships where Europe's defensive strategies failed to hold out for long against the strong team from Japan, who won 4-2. The Super Smash Bros. Invitational had several heated matches on both new and old maps, with the grand final coming to a clash of titans as ZeRo won out against MkLeo to take the title.

Wednesday of the Treehouse gave us a look at some more Smash Bros. Ultimate, but also a range of other games. Mario Tennis Aces, Octopath Traveller, Super Mario Party, Hollow Knight, and Daemon X Machina, as well as the DLC of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Splatoon 2.

The Treehouse for Thursday has given looks at two Arcade Archives games - Donkey Kong and Sky Skipper - as well as Starlink: Battle For Atlas. More Smash Bros. Ultimate is to follow.

I'm so hyped for the show. I had planned to watch the Direct, download Fortnite, and play that all night, but then I realised that would mean missing TreeHouse, and now I'm conflicted... Had no idea I'd missed the Splatoon Championship opening too.

ResetEra has been having a breakdown over this Direct because a few leakers have suggested to lower expectations and Smash will the majority of the focus. I don’t mind that, but I’d be disappointed if Fire Emblem drops off the radar for 2018 and we see nothing of Metroid.

I also forgot about the Treehouse so I'll read the summary for the Direct and try to watch Treehouse, especially at it starts with Smash Bros.

I'm excited :toot:

I will die inside if Fire Emblem isn't shown. It's been my most anticipated game of E3.

I'm really bad at controlling my hype. Despite the rumours to temper expectations, I cannot help completely disregarding those the second I see another random rumour, like people suddenly suggesting we'll see a Castlevania collection for Switch. With the lack of VC, that has me salivating at the potential (I'm hoping not just the obvious I-IV + SOTN, I want the GBA / DS games too). My train literally had no rails to begin with. I hope they're somehow able to deliver.

I think if they have Yoshi, Smash, Pokemon and Fire Emblem lined up then that’s a strong second half of 2018 in terms of releases. If they’re not showing 2019 stuff though the E3 show won’t be full of surprises once they’ve done the roster reveals for Smash.

I'd love to see Fire Emblem but Xenoblade, Octopath and Vesperia will keep my RPG needs filled for a long time. I need a pick up and play game to balance it out so more Odyssey worlds, Yoshi, Kirby or NSMB would be very welcome.

Having just completed (and loved) Xenoblade 2, I’m hoping we get some details and a release date for the DLC. A port of X would make me very happy too.

I think Odyssey DLC is a possibility and if they don’t announce it, then that will pretty much mean they’re doing a SMO2 in my opinion.

I'm a little unsure about the show. I'm not interested in Smash Bros - fighters aren't my bag - and I suspect that'll get a lot of focus. I wonder if the game will be "all-new" or if it's a Wii U + DLC port?

I'm hoping that Fallout 3 and/or 4 will appear on Switch. It's not looking likely after Bethesda didn't show anything like this in their presentation and indicated "no Anniversary update". But I'm still hoping. I would also like to see a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X as it'd encourage me to try it out.

I believe the focus is on 2018 games so I'm not anticipating any major surprises. I don't know why, but I kinda have low expectations for the show. I hope Nintendo proves me wrong!

That’s the Splatoon finals, I was wondering if there was anything a bit more solid on the times for Smash itself, but presumably that’s not possible. Cheers!

Sorry misread! Reckon that will probably be confirmed in Treehouse

I think I'd be slightly disappointed if a good percentage of the direct wad focused on Smash, not because I'm not a huge fan of the series but rather because that's what the tree house is good at, going in depth with the games letting the direct focusing on showcasing them.

Anyway here's another post hoping for Animal Crossing, Paper Mario TTYD remake and Skyward Sword HD to show up. Two of these probably stand no chance of happening though.

...I'm not gonna answer that.

Yes :shifty: . I barely played it even though I loved the idea of it. If there was a port, I really hope they make the text bigger as it is ridiculously tiny!

One hour until launch.

I'm not sure if I'm excited or apprehensive. A bit of both, I think!

I'm steeling myself for the inevitable disappointment.
